Why Should I Read My Bible?

Have you ever needed to take some medicine when you were sick? Maybe you had a nasty cold and you ran to
the doctor to get a prescription for some medicine to help you get better faster. I have to admit, I am deathly
afraid of poison ivy, it seems that whenever I look at it for too long my whole body begins to itch. The last time I
had poison ivy it seemed as if my body was completely covered, I had to go to the doctor to get a steroid shot
and medicine to take until it cleared up.
So lets say you go to the pharmacy and pick up the medicine your doctor prescribed. You bring the medicine
home, however, you place the medicine on your counter and leave it there. A few days later, you end up calling
the doctor because you aren't getting any better. You say to him, I don't understand why I am still sick. Your
doctor would probably ask you if you were taking your medicine as often or as much as he or she prescribed.
Since the medicine is still sitting on the countertop, youd have to say no that you weren't taking your medicine
like the doctor had prescribed.
The only way for medicine to work for you is to get it in you. If it just sits on your counter all week, it is not
going to do you any good. When the medicine gets inside of you is when the real power goes into effect.
The same is true when it comes to reading the Bible. The Bible does no good in your life unless you get it into
you, We have to spend time reading it, thinking about it, and doing what it says for it to make a change in our
lives. When you get the Bible into your heart, it has the power to change your life.
Psalm 119:11 says, Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you. It should be our
desire as followers of God to spend our time meditating and applying His word to our lives.
Challenge yourself to spend enough time reading and thinking about the Bible that it becomes a part of who you
are. The goal of reading the Bible is to grow. We shouldn't be in the same place we were a year ago. God can be
more real to us now than He was last year when we spend our days learning about Him and His desire for us.
To really get the most out of reading the Bible, it may take tuning some other distractions out of our lives. The
Bible is more than just an ordinary book. It has the power to change you, As you read it, it will become more
alive to you and youll want to know God more. Choose to make the Bible important in your everyday life.
Just like medicine, the Bible can only do us good when we choose to take it in.
