AIMS/OBJECTIVES:
A) SPECIFIC AIMS: by the end of the lesson the Ss. will be able to:
- ask and answer questions regarding Signs of the Zodiac;
- tell the lucky colour of each Sign of the Zodiac;
- tell what Zodiac Sign they are;
- use simple sentences to describe their personality using positive and negative traits of their own Zodiac Sign;
B) AFFECTIVE AIMS:
- to create a warm atmosphere in order to offer the background for smooth, easy conversations between T.
and Ss.
- to help Ss. become more confident when speaking English.

STAGES OF THE LESSON:

ACTIVITY 1: ORGANISATIONAL MOMENT (1`)

PROCEDURE:
T. enters the room, greets the Ss., asks if there are any absentees and talks to the Ss. asking them how they are
doing. Ss. greet and answer the questions.
AIM: - to cheer up the Ss. and to prepare Ss. for the lesson.
TECHNIQUES : discussion.

ACTIVITY 2: CHECKING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE (6`)

PROCEDURE:
T. asks the Ss. about their homework checking it frontally (What was your homework for today?) and then
individually by verifying Ss` notebooks. T. asks questions about their homework and the Ss. answer the questions.
AIM: - to check the acquiring of previous knowledge and to give the Ss. feedback regarding their work at home.

ACTIVITY 3: WARM-UP (2`)

PROCEDURE:
T. asks Ss. What is your zodiac sign? Do you know the Signs of the Zodiac in English?... If you don`t it isn`t
a problem because that is what we are going to learn today! T. puts it down on the bb. and the Ss. in their
notebooks.
AIM: - to make the lead-into the subject and capture their interest in the topic;
- to prepare Ss. for the lesson.

ACTIVITY 4: VOCABULARY FOCUS-INTRODUCING THE NEW VOCABULARY (7`)

PROCEDURE:
T. asks Ss. to open their textbook at page 14 and to have a look at the zodiac signs in the picture. Ss. are asked
about what are the Signs of the Zodiac and T draws a sketch of them on the bb. using Ss.` answers. (T. may
translate in Romanian if Ss. don`t seem to understand the question).

ACTIVITY 5: VOCABULARY BUILDING (15`)

PROCEDURE:
Ss. are asked to form groups and they are given some hand-outs. Ss. have to fill in a grid --a group factfile-- with
information required for each member of the group (first name, surname, school, grade, age, date of birth, sign of
the zodiac and lucky colour). T. supervises the whole activity and guides the Ss. where and if necessary. T. asks
Ss. to role play asking their colleagues what Zodiac Sign they are.
AIM : - to enrich Ss. vocabulary by studying the Signs of the Zodiac.
- to make Ss. use the new acquired vocabulary in written production.
TECHNIQUE: Group Work; Role Play.

ACTIVITY 6: CONSOLIDATION: MY ZODIAC SIGN DESCRIPTION (15)
PROCEDURE:
Ss. have to read the hand-out regarding the characteristics of the Zodiac Signs and then describe their own
personality using the positive and negative traits on the hand-out. Ss. are given 10` to complete the task and then
they have to read their production (5`). The best productions will be put down on the bb.
AIM:
- to activate Ss. vocabulary linked to the Signs of the Zodiac.

TECHNIQUE: Team Work

ACTIVITY 7: ASSIGNING HOMEWORK (2`)
PROCEDURE:
Ss. are asked to make a paper oracle by cutting pieces of paper, drawing each Zodiac Sign and its lucky colour,
fold it in two and then writing inside it a prediction about good things that are going to happen to their classmates.
Extra homework for the volunteers: Ss. will have to make a description of their family members` personality
based on the characteristics of their zodiac signs using the hand-out. T. writes the homework on the bb. and the
Ss. in their notebooks.
ACTIVITY 8: EVALUATION/ASSESEMENT (2`)
PROCEDURE:
Ss. will be evaluated based on their activity during class verbally, but also by receiving marks.
