In todays society, every child is given the opportunity to acquire an

education and learn. I believe that all students can meet challenging
expectations through a partnership between the school, home, and
community. Teachers, administrators, staff members, and parents must
allocate a common focus of preparing students to be ready to face the
demands of todays society and tomorrows world. I believe that education
needs to foster critical thinking skills, technological skills, and develop the
interpersonal skills that are needed to meet the challenges that the future
holds. This can be achieved by surrounding students with professionals who
encourage, inspire, and have high expectations for all students in a safe
learning environment. In addition, I think it is extremely imperative for the
involvement of parents and the community to support and encourage all
children to ensure success.
Technology is an aspect in todays society that is constantly undergoing
change. Therefore, education must be able to keep up with the high
demand of technological advances and the needs of society. It is up to
educator to prepare the students to have the proper skills needed to improve
the world we live in. The teacher must adapt, change, and be flexible to the
learning needs of the students. The purpose of education is to promote
lifelong learning for all students through the acquisition of the appropriate
knowledge and skills necessary for a productive life that is both meaningful
and necessary in our society. A teacher must be able to communicate to
students the importance of values early on in order for students to
appreciate and understand the privilege of having a free public educational
system as it exists in our country today.
The role of a teacher should be professional at all times. However, a teacher
must have talent and skills to motivate, inspire, and communicate with all
students. The teacher should promote creativity and help students realize

their potential by teaching them to utilize their strengths and talents, while
improving on their weaknesses. A teacher should be a positive role model
with the ability to earn the trust of all students, so that they know that the
teacher always has their best interest in mind. All students should be
focused and learn to have a creative open mind to new ideas. Although past
experiences help shape the knowledge of students, it is the job of the
teacher to expose them to new ways of exploring, learning, and
understanding.
Learning should be measured by the individual progress of each student. In
this age of standardized and state exams, teachers are expected to follow a
curriculum that focuses on passing a state exam so that schools have a
higher rating. I feel that this does not measure true learning or give
students the experiences needed to be successful later in life. Instead, I feel
that both formative and summative assessments should be used for
accountability purposes. Technology should also be integrated in order to
measure real life learning.
Schools today offer students the core subjects of learning, as well electives.
I feel that, schools should gear courses according to the interests and
aptitude of each individual student, so that they may develop the ability and
refine the skills needed to be productive members of society. In addition, I
think that the integration of technology is necessary in every classroom at
every grade level. Ian Jukes once said, To understand their world we must
be willing to immerse ourselves in that world. We must embrace the new
digital reality. If we cant relate, if we dont get it, we wont be able to make
schools relevant to the current and future needs of the digital generation.
Technology is an ever-changing phenomenon and by integrating technology
into the classroom, students will be better prepared for the technological
future. In my classroom, I stress the importance of reading, writing,
collaborating, and making connections to real life and real world scenarios. I
need to be creative and innovative when planning my lessons in order to
engage and reach all of my students. This is where technology comes into
play. As a teacher, I incorporate technology into the lessons that I teach by
using my class set of 30 laptops, IPads, the Mimio, Elmo, and my mounted
projector. EDMODO, Todays Meet, You Tube, Power Point, Prezi, Microsoft
Word, e-books, IPADSs, and various other software purchased by the school
and district are also integrated into my daily lessons.
The following are goals I have for my students: I want all my students to be
prepared with the skills they need for the next phases of their learning and

for their everyday lives. I want to encourage their love for learning and make
them critical thinkers and problem solvers.
My teaching philosophy falls under the category of Constructivism. My role
is more of a facilitator because I am constantly asking higher order thinking
questions to guide my students to reach their own conclusions. In essence,
my students learn through technological programs and hands on experiences
that are designed to support and challenge their thinking. From my
perspective concerning learning and integrating technology, the learning will
never stop, due to all the technological advances in our society. Also, it is
essential to expose our students to different aspects that are relevant to
them. Technology is definitely a main feature that captures their interest and
makes them excited and eager to engage themselves in the learning
process.
The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what
to think rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for
ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men. -Bill
