Weekly One Liner Updates is a collection of important news and events that occurred in the second week of
(8th 14th) June 2016. This file is important for exams like SBI Clerk Mains, SBI PO 2016 and all upcoming
Banking & Insurance exams.

Banking & Financial Awareness


1. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved
1.5 billion US dollar loan to- Sri Lanka.
Note:
IMF has already transferred 168 million US
dollars as the first installment with immediate
effect to support the countrys economy, which is
showing "signs of strain".
The Executive Board of the IMF has accepted this
36-month extended arrangement under its
Extended Fund Facility (EFF) with Sri Lanka for an
amount equivalent to 1.1 billion under special
drawing rights.
2. Current repo rate, according to the recently released
RBIs 2nd bi-monthly monetary policy statement for
year 2016-17- 6.5%.
Note:
The policy repo rate under the Liquidity
Adjustment Facility (LAF) has remain unchanged
at 6.5 %, the reverse repo rate under the LAF has
remain unchanged at 6.0 % and the Marginal
Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate at
7.0 %.
The RBI has also kept the Cash Reserve Ratio
(CRR) of scheduled banks unchanged at 4.0 % of
Net Demand and Time Liabilities (NDTL).
3. Indias first internationally-listed certified green bond
has been launched by which bank at London Stock
Exchange(LSE)- Axis Bank
Note:
The bond is certified by the Climate Bonds
Standards Board and raised USO 500 million.

4. The first-ever All India Women Journalists workshop


has been held in the city._____. New Delhi
5. Indias rank in the 2016 Global Peace Index (GPI)_
141st .
Note: India has been ranked 141st out of 163 countries
in the 2016 Global Peace Index (GPI), compiled by
global think tank Institute for Economics and
Peace (IEP).
The list is topped by Iceland, followed by Denmark
and Austria. The GPI 2016 ranks 163 independent
states and territories according to their level of
peacefulness.
6. The World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim slashes
global growth forecast by 0.5 percent to - 2.4 percent.
Note:
The World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim
has slashed its 2016 growth forecast by 0.5 per
cent to 2.4 per cent.
It is critically important for governments to pursue
policies that boo economic growth and improve
the livelihood of those living in extreme poverty.
7. India has signed a Europe-led scheme that seeks to
clampdown on tax evasion and corruption by
committing to -automatically exchange information
on beneficial ownership.
8. Indias current position in terms of crude oil
consumption in world as per recent report of BP
Statistical review of World Energy_. Third.
Note: India has surpassed Japan to become the worlds
third-largest oil consumer. USA retains the First
position.

9. The e-ticketing company in which Ratan Tata recently


invested is Kyazoonga.
10. Microsoft Corporation recently announced that it is
going to acquire LinkedIn.
Note:-

Jeff Weiner will remain as chief executive,


reporting to Microsoft boss Satya Nadella.
Microsoft is buying the professional networking
website LinkedIn for just over $26bn .
Microsoft bought Skype in 2011 and Nokia in
2013.

New Appointments
1. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has
appointed a judicial commission to probe into the
recent Mathura violence- Mirza Imtiyaz commission.
Note: He has been asked to submit its report in two
months.
The commission was formed after the Supreme
Court refused to entertain a plea seeking a CBI
probe into the incident.
2. A communication technology specialist has taken
charge as the Director of the Commonwealth
Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA)__. Shahid
Rasool.
Note: CEMCA is an arm of the Vancouver-based
Commonwealth of Learning (COL).
Its headquarter is in New Delhi.
3. Umang Bedi has been appointed as the Managing
Director of - Facebook India.
4. The eminent scientist who has been recently took over
as Chief Executive of Nuclear Fuel Complex is ___. G
Kalyanakrishnan.
Note:
The NFC is a major industrial unit of Department
of Atomic Energy (DAE), for the supply of nuclear
fuel bundles and reactor core components.
5. Swedish Major General appointed as the head of the
UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan in
June 2016 - Major General Per Lodin

established by UN Security Council (UNSC)
Resolution.
It had started its operations in 1949.
6. The head of Pay Revision Committee by the UGC to
suggest on pay revision of academic staff of
Universities and Colleges - Prof V S Chauhan.
7. The person who assumed charge as the Chief Justice of
the Manipur High Court - Justice Rakesh Ranjan
Prasad.
8. Unanimously appointed as the first women
chairperson of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous
Council (NCHAC) in Assam - Ranu Langthasa.
9. The founder chairman of Jet Airways who was elected
to the International Air Transport Association's (IATA)
Board of Governors for the 5th consecutive tenure
Naresh Goyal.
Note:
This would be his 5th successive tenure and
only representative from India on this board.
Goyal will serve a three-year term, lasting until
the close of IATAs 75th AGM in 2019.
10. The head of the newly created committee by NITI
Aayog for land policy cell__.T Haque.
Note: He was the chairman of Commission for
Agriculture Costs and Prices, and now has been
appointed the head of the newly created land
policy cell in the NITI Aayog.
T Haque was among the prime mover behind
the Model Land Leasing Act.

1. India signed loan agreement of 12 crore with the Asian
Development Bank to improve irrigation and water
management infrastructure in Odisha.
Note: The financing will be used for modernizing 7irrigation subprojects resulting in improved
irrigation in over 1,00,000 hectares and
strengthening of Water User Associations.
2. Union Home Ministry has decided to form new reserve
battalion and it will be named after ____. Maharana
Pratap.
Note:
It will be called Maharana India Reserve
Battalion.
It was announced by Union Home Minister
Rajnath Singh on the occasion of 475th birth
anniversary of Maharana Pratap in Gogunda in
Udaipur district.
3. The Country in which India organized 1st Yoga
Championship in June 2016- Egypt.
4. The country that s hadecided to cut off Internet access
for government work stations within a year for
security reasons.- Singapore.
5. The mission that demonstrated the technology needed
to build a space-based gravitational wave observatory

India, operated by the Ministry of Road
Transport and Highways.
11. The Mobile App that was launched by Union
Government to enhance the employment of trained
youth in solar PV technology on 7 June 2016- Surya
Mitra Mobile App
Note: It is a GPS-based mobile app, developed by
National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) which is
an autonomous institution of Ministry of New &
Renewable Energy.
12. The State government has recently abolished
agriculture income tax__. Karnataka.
Note: This in turn will provide relief to many tea and
coffee companies besides thousands of individual
coffee growers. Plantation companies had to pay
a 35% tax on their net income.
13. Rajasva Gyan Sangam, the annual conference of tax
administrators 2016 will be held in ___.- New Delhi.
Note: The purpose of the conference is to motivate the
revenue officers towards achieving high
standards in taxpayer friendly services in view of
fast paced changes in the world economy and to
address some of the challenges that these
Departments face in this scenario.
14. State has become the first Indian state to launch open
government data portal to promote transparency__.

1. The first Indian state to launch a green-concept based
State Data Centre is - Himachal Pradesh.

Index in June 2016- Rajasthan.
3. Internet search engine Google and Tata Trusts joint
initiative Internet Saathi was recently launched inWest Bengal.
4. The state government has decided to appoint large
number of language teachers, including for Telugu and
Bengali languages to meet the shortage of teachers in
the regional languages Odisha.

5. The State government served Leave India notice to


eight Chinese nationals working under a Thai company
at the Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district Odisha.
6. The state government has decided to celebrate the
21st of every month as Yoga day across all schools,
colleges and universities in the state Maharashtra.
7. The districts, in which the Telangana government
ordered to set up a Pharma City on 12500 acres of

Note: Under Janani Sewa, hot milk, hot water and baby
food will be available at railway stations.

2. The national award for best performing central PSU for
Green Energy initiatives __.Airports Authority of
India.
Note: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been
conferred with the National Award for Best
Performing Central PSU for Roof Top Solar Power
initiatives.
It has installed 4.8 megawatt peak power
(MWp) rooftop solar plants at 13 airports, which
are generating approximately 51 lakh units of
solar energy.

Note: The film is about two Hyderabadi sisters who

appearance in Olympics__.Leander Paes.
Note: He is the only Indian to win an individual medal
at Olympics.
He won the bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta

Obituaries
1. Father of modern Nepali music and composer of the
countrys national anthem passed away in Dhapasi _.
Amber Gurung.
Note:
He had composed Nepals National Anthem Sayaun
Thunga Fulka Hami (written by Byakul Maila) and
more than a 1,000 songs.
2. Professional Chess grandmaster four-time USSR chess
champion, a five-time member of Soviet teams has
passed away in Wohlen, Switzerland. Victor Korchnoi.
Note: One of the strongest players never to have become
World Chess Champion,
3. Veteran journalist who passed away in June 2016 and
spent 28 years at The Hindu- KK Katyal.
Note:
Mr. Katyal had worked with various newspapers
including The Statesman, Hindustan Times and
The Hindu.
Katyal was the founder of the India chapter of the
South Asia Free Media Association.
4. The Raging Bull actress who died recently is - Theresa
Saldana.

5. The former captain of England Cricket team who died


at the age of 89 years - Donald Carr.
6. Noted playwright and actor has passed away at his
resident, Pathsala in Barpeta district.- Achyut Lahkar.
Note: Lahkar had established Nataraj Theatre in 1963
and gave a rebirth to moving theatre in Assam.
Achyut Lahkar was awarded the Kamal Kumari
National Award in 1997.
7. The veteran journalist and former editor of The Times
of India who died recently is - Inder Malhotra.
Note: Malhotra worked as the resident editor of The
Statesman in New Delhi from 1965 to 1971.
He held the position of editor at The Times of
India from 1978 to 1986.
He received the Ramnath Goenka Lifetime
Achievement Award in 2013.
8. Renowned Hindi writer who died recently was the
Editor at All India Radio from 1962 to 1976Mudrarakshasa.

Note: The satellite has launched from the Xichang
Satellite Launch Center in southwest Chinas
Sichuan Province .

It will support Chinas global navigation and


positioning network.
The satellite was taken into orbit by a Long
March-3C carrier rocket.
5. Hubble Telescope uncovers the drizzle of stars
scattered across this image forms a galaxy known asUGC 4879.
6. Three countries that participated in the Malabar
Exercise 2016- India, United States and Japan.
Note: This year it is the 20th edition of the 8-day joint
naval exercise in which over 100 aircraft and 22
naval ships including a nuclear submarine are
participating.
India and the US have regularly conducted the
annual exercise since 1992.
Last year, it was conducted in Chennai and
included the participation of Japan.

1. The Rio Olympics-bound Indian track and field athlete,
who has won a silver medal in 800 meters in the Josef
Odlozil Memorial Athletics Meet in Prague, Czech
Republic - Tintu Luka.
Note: She is the National record holder in the womens
800-metre race.
She was awarded Arjuna award by Government
of India in 2014.
2. The 2019 AFC Asian Cup will be hosted by the country
____.United Arab Emirates
Note: It is the quadrennial international mens football
championship of Asia organized by the Asian
Football Confederation.
It is the 17th edition of the AFC Asian Cup.
3. The Indian city that will host the mens Hockey Junior
World Cup 2016 is Lucknow.
4. Tennis star who has been suspended for two years
from Tennis by the International Tennis Federation

and 2000 will carry the hopes of a nation still

International Open Chess Tournament - NR Visakh.
9. Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has won the 2016
Australian Open Super Series Badminton tournament
title in womens singles category in Sydney- Saina
Nehwal.
Note: It was Sainas first title of year 2016 season and
overall second Australian Open title(2014) of
her career.
With this win, she pocketed a cheque of 56250
US dollars.

11. The first Indian Cricketer to score century in his debut


ODI Match- KL Rahul.
12. The team that won gold at the FINA Women Water
Polo World League Super Final is - USA Womens
Senior National Team.
13. This Mercedes racing driver won the 2016 Canada
Grand Prix of Formula 1 title Lewis Hamilton.
Note: It was his second title of the season after
winning 2016 Monaco Grand Prix in May 2016.
Previously he had won the titles in 2007,
2010, 2012 and 2015.

10. Mens title of the 2016 Australian Open Super Series
