Seminar One Journal Part 1: Women have made great advances in the U.S., both politically and professionally. Are all things equal between women and men, no. Are they much better than they were in the 40s , 60s or even 80s, yes? The day of women barefoot and pregnant, not allowed to make major decisions in the family and being expected to submit in all things to the husband is in the past but cannot and should not be ignored. Womens lives in the past and today Years past, women did not have a voice and were afraid. Afraid of their families, their bosses and religious leaders. Females were generally not allowed to participate in little league, get an education and when they did go to school they were encouraged to take courses such as home ec, and typing. Instead of taking courses such as calculus and physics they were encouraged to become the so called social directors of the school (Shaw & Lee, 2015). Few women went to college and became doctors and lawyers and when they did they were competing with men for the jobs. The women of today have been given a voice and are more brave than ever. They are entitled to a proper education and with that education they have gain confidence that allows them to be who they want to be. Women in the country have been given an opportunity to have a say in how this country is ran. They are difference makers and can change lives forever.

Seminar One Journal Part 2: In 2012, Reebok had an ad that was called Cheat on your Girlfriend, Not on your Workout that the slogan alone could and did turn the heads of women. It would lead you to believe that Reeboks morals went down the drain when coming up with the slogan. Matter of fact, this slogan was rolled out in Germany and commotion on Twitter followed. Needless to say, Reebok pulled the ad and a spokesperson assured customers that this type of behavior was not what they were selling (Bahadur, 2012). A commercial such as this could teach our young men that it is socially ok to cheat on your girlfriend when the message should be just the opposite. In 2013, Bosch had a washing machine print ad that was called 125 Years of Evolution that had a series of pictures starting in 1886 through 2011 all portraying women doing the laundry. Yes, the ad showed the women looking more empowered, however, not only women do laundry. During the 80 and 90s there was a sitcom called Married with Children. This show had some now well-known actors but it was a show that could be considered sexist. The father on the show, hated fat women which creates body image issues for females. The mother on the show was a lazy housewife that portrayed women in a negative light.
