Published Date: Jan 19, 2013 9:15 AM Last Updated: Jan 19, 2013 9:15 AM Based on a writ petition from the wife alleging dowry harassment and domestic violence against her husband, an IPS trainee officer, the Madras High Court has restrained the DGP from appointing Vinoth Santharam as a Deputy Superintendent of Police. In view of the counter-affidavit filed by the official respondent stating that an inquiry into the allegations of dowry harassment as well as domestic violence is pending against the husband, there will be an interim injunction for one week, Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar said on Friday. The judge was passing interim orders on a writ petition from K Lakshmi Priya (25), of Sampath Nagar in Erode, whose main prayer was for a direction to the DGP to consider her representation dated June 9 last year and take action against her husband in accordance with the law. In her writ petition, Priya submitted that Santharam was originally employed as a clerk in Karnataka Bank in Coimbatore. On promotion, he was posted in Chennai. Subsequently, he was selected as Assistant Selection Officer in the TN Secretariat through the TNPSC. He was further selected by the TNPSC in Group-I and was now undergoing training as DSP in the Police Training College in Vandalur near Chennai. Priya got married to Santharam on February 5, 2009, and they had a girl child. While so, Santharams parents prevented Priya from cohabitating with her husband to conduct a second marriage for their son. Her husband was not only a government servant but also a member of the disciplined force and expected to have high degree of discipline. The husband also attempted to divorce her, but the II Addl Judge in Erode thwarted the bid by passing a negative order. The court had also allowed her petition seeking restitution of her conjugal rights. However, despite all this, Santharam neglected her and the one-year-old child.
