1st Safety and Preparedness in Hospitals and

Schools (SAPHAS) Summit

(REACTION PAPER)
On February 28, March 1 & March 2 the 1 st Safety and Preparedness in Hospitals and
Schools (SAPHAS) Summit was held. There are lot of things you can learn in the
summit. The booths are Water safety and survival, Basic Rope Course, Basic Life
Support, Emergency Balde, Basic Mountaineering Course, Film Showing, Emergency
Field Hospital, Bandaging and Splinting, Combat Medic Course, Ambulance
Operations, Victim Handling Lifting & Moving, Spine Board tying and lifting, Obstacle
course, and Rescue Challenge.
We are required to go to 7 booths. First we go to Bandaging and Splinting, Bandages
are employed to hold dressings, to secure splints, to create pressure, to immobilize
joints and in correcting deformity. A splint is a device used for support or
immobilization of a limb or the spine. It can be used in multiple situations, including
temporary immobilization of potentially broken bones or damaged joints and
support for joints during activity. We are taught how to bandage and splint a victim,
how splint his legs and arms when there is a fracture on the victim. Bandaging and
Splinting is very important because this make the injuries not to get worse.
Second we go to Basic Rope Course you can learn here the different kinds of loops
and knots
Bowline, Clove Hitch, Overhand, Two Half Hitches, Square Knot etc. It is also
important in saving lives like when someone is trapped at a building with fire you
can make a harness to go down safely. Third we go to Combat Medic Course we are
introduced to the things that is used in combat medic course, we are introduced to
the basics of combat medic. Third we go to Emergency Field Hospital; a field
hospital is a large mobile medical unit, or mini hospital, that temporarily takes care
of casualties on-site before they can be safely transported to more permanent
hospital facilities. We also go to Emergency Balde, we are introduced in the things
that you should need to survive, and what re the thing that you should put in
emergency balde.

Last we go to film showing to watch a movie where you can learn many things we
have watched the film Bringing Out The Dead in this movie Nicolas Cage plays EMS
paramedic Frank Pierce. It is the early 1990's and New York has not yet undergone
its renaissance of recent years. Surrounded by the injured and the dying, Frank is
dwelling in an urban night-world, crumbling under the accumulated weight of too
many years of saving and losing lives. The film follows Frank over the course of fiftysix hours in his life - two days and three nights on the job - as he reaches the very
brink of spiritual collapse and redemption. Overall the summit was successful
because the students learn many things that can be used to save lives. The 1 st
Safety and Preparedness in Hospitals and Schools (SAPHAS) Summit was a good
event for every student who wants to learn how to survive and save lives.

Prepare. Survive. Save Lives.
