Module Description (1 items)

The primary aim of this module is to provide students with an understanding of the wide
variety of financial information available to managers.The core theme of this module is to
consider how managers in all business organisations can utilise financial information to
greatly enhance the decision making process.Great focus is placed upon the interpretation
of financial information and in this way the module builds upon and develops techniques
studied during the level four Business Operations module.

Learning Outcomes (1 items)


The learning outcomes highlight the key skills and/or knowledge which students are
expected to learn from the module. Students can use these learning outcomes for their
own learning and should remember that achievement of these outcomes is dependent on
lecture attendance, seminar participation, assignment completion and additional reading.
For the Managing Financial Resources module students must achieve the following
outcomes:
Prepare budgets and cash flow forecasts for an organisation. Compare and contrast
financial decisions based on financial information available Recognise and assess the
regulatory framework for financial reporting Analyse and interpret the financial
performance of business organisations

Teaching and Learning Methods (1 items)


A variety of teaching and learning methods will be used.Methods will include lectures,
seminars, group based discussion and workshop time will be allocated at the end of each

session. Particular emphasis is placed upon the application of concepts and theories to
service sector-based business scenarios. Learning will be supported by handouts in the
form of lesson notes and articles, OHT's, videos and other material deemed appropriate for
the topic areas under consideration and where possible reference will be made to relevant
industry examples.

Description of Assessed Tasks (1 items)


CW consists of a report based on financial analysis of a hospitality / tourism organisation.
This is designed to cover learning outcomes 2, 3 and 4.
The 1-hour Written Exam at the end of the module provides the opportunity for individual
coverage of the learning outcomes 1 and 2.
