TITLE: Working with Kids Doodle App

GRADE 3RD
SUBJECT: Art
TIME REQURE: 2 classroom periods 50 minutes each.
INTRO/OVERVIEW: The students are to learn how to draw landscapes using the Color
Doodle app on their iPad. Students already have app downloaded into their iPad. Instructions
is for students to work on basic shapes and colors in a background setting. They will also use
perspective to make objects in landscape appear to give distance.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: The students are expected to learn how to begin to draw
landscapes. For these landscapes each student will draw a sky with clouds and a sun in it.
They will then draw mountains under the sky. At the base of picture draw trees, rocks,
water...etc. of things found in a forest.
CURRICULUM ALIGNMENT: This assignment meets the Nevada Department of Education
Fine Arts standards in both application and context. In that students will be producing
artwork in various media and analyzing artwork in multiple context. This assignment also
meets the ISTE standards in that it promotes student reflection using collaborative tools.
This lesson plans meets different grade levels. It can be used for 2nd and 4th grade art also.
If using for 2nd grade simplify the assignment so that they are drawing a plain landscape.
Example of this being a sky and a simple background. For the 4th grade class more attention
to fine detail of their backgrounds. Objectives of this assignment is to show a basic
understanding of shading and objects being in the background/foreground.
MATERIALS NEEDED: Teacher will be required to have Children and Their Art textbook. IPad
and laptop both provide by school. Smock for teacher located hanging up by desk. Children
to have textbook, pencils, eraser, paint, paint brushes and blank canvas. Each child has a
smock for when they paint located in the back of classroom in cubby. Each table will have
two water cans for washing out brushes.
TECHNOLOGY NEEDED: Children have their own iPad provided by school. Each iPad located
in lockup at rear of the room. You will need to unlock case prior to class starting. Key is given
to you by front office when you arrive. All students are to get and put away own iPad.
WEBSITES NEEDED: Kids Doodle App already downloaded on their iPad and the teachers
as well.
PRE ACTIVITIES: All children should have completed their basic shapes and color mixing
covered in chapter 1. All students should know how to log in to their iPad and go to the Kids
Doodle app. The teacher should have their iPad already on the Kids Doodle app. Chapter 2 in
the textbook is where the painting section is in.
ACTIVITIES:

First Day .Step 1. Open iPad to Kids Doodle app.


Step 2. Load blank canvas draw clouds.
Step 3 .Draw sun and mountains
Step 4. Draw forest setting consisting of rocks, trees, grass.
Step 5. Shade and color in drawing.
Step 6. Save canvas painting on iPad.

Second day Step 1. Hand out blank white construction paper.


Step 2. Hand out paints and brushes.
Step 3. Draw clouds and sun.
Step 4. Draw mountains.
Step 5. Draw Forest setting consisting of rocks, trees, and grass.
Step 6. paint in landscape they have drawn.
Step 7. Last 10 minutes of class clean area put away supplies.

ASSESSMENT: Students should finish the canvas project on iPad knowing how to do a basic
background with shading and coloring. Students should finish construction canvas painting
knowing basic color schemes and shapes.
MODIFICATION: We had two special needs children in the class. For this weeks assignment
they will be using the Drawing Board application on the iPad. Their assignment will be to
draw basic shapes and color them in. On the second day using white construction paper
they are to draw a square, circle and rectangle and paint them in. The objective is to learn
and identify various shapes. They have 4 classroom schedule days to complete this
assignment.
