Films: completed between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014
Online Application Deadline: 20th January 2015 upto midnight
Last Date of films receiving : 27th January 2015 upto 6 pm

Rules and regulations for NSFA 2015


1. Categories
A) Fiction
a. Short Fiction A (up to 10 min)
b. Short Fiction B (above 10 min and up to 30 min)
B) Non Ficition
a. Non Fiction (up to 30 min)
C) Animation ( up to 30 min)
2. Eligibility for entry:
a. Films produced by an academic Institution in India as a part of their curriculum and
completed between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014 will be accepted. The
completion date must be certified by the Institute.
b. Films must be entered by the Institution only. A hard copy of the acknowledgement
(which will be sent to email-id upon submission of the online application form) and the
declaration as per 2a, has to be duly forwarded under the seal and signature of the
Institute Head.
c. Individual entries by students will not be entertained.
d. The competition is open to students and producing institutions only. In case of a crew
member being non student/ working professional, it must be clearly mentioned in the
application form. Awards will only be given to students and producing institutions.
e. Films if entered for the second edition of NSFA at SRFTI, Kolkata in 2014 will not be
eligible for the third edition of NSFA.
f. If it is discovered at any time that any institution has made an attempt to enter the
competition by getting the film made by professionals or non students and subsequently
sent the entries in the name of the students, then the particular institution will be
blacklisted and debarred from participating in subsequent awards/events and such names
will also be listed (Published, declared) on the website. The said institution may also be
liable for legal proceedings for deliberate misrepresentation of facts.

3. Number of Entries:
In order to accomodate the creative potential of institutions where Film, TV, new media etc
are tought independent of each other with seperate course structures under independent
departments/ wings, a higher number of entries have been permitted this year.
For such additional entries from specialised departments, a declaration* needs to be
submitted by head of the institution about the existance of independent course
structure and independent departments.
*The declaration proforma for the same is attached in the application form.
The total number of entries per institution must not exceed 30.
The maximum number of entries allowed per department/ wing in each category is given
below.
a. Short Fiction A ( up to 10 min*) : 4 (max four entries)
b. Short Fiction B (above 10 min and up to 30 min*): 8 (max eight entries)
c. Non Fiction (up to 30 min*): 8 (max eight entries)
d. Animation ( up to 30 min*): 4 (max four entries)
PLEASE NOTE: The minimum and maximum time limit in each catagory is inclusive
for the opening and closing titles.
4. Fees
Entry fee is Rs. 800/- (Rupees Eight Hundred only) per film. The fee must be paid
by demand draft in favour of Accounts Officer, Film & Television Institute of India,
payable at Pune.The DD is to be sent along with the hard copy of the
acknowledment and the declaration [as mentioned in 2b]
5. Format of entries
a. Film - 35 mm
b. .mov file with Apple pro-res codec
In addition to the above, the institution must send two sets of preview copies on DVD (
each film on a separate DVD). Each DVD must be labelled clearly with Title of the film,
Name of the Institution, and the Category applied for. The label must be on the cover of
the DVD, as well as on the disc itself.
6. The decision of the Selection committees and Jury members will be final & binding
on all.
7. The Jury has the right to withhold an award in any category where no entries, in the
Jurys view, meet its standards for award/recognition.
8. Films once selected and submitted for the final screening will not be allowed to be
withdrawn under any circumstances. Participation in the festival implies acceptance
of Festival Regulations.
9. The festival authorities reserve the right to accept or not to accept any films on any
ground including the likelihood of the film offending the feelings of any state,
religion, country or on the grounds such as racism and religion.
10. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to secure clearance from the copyright
holders of any copyrighted materials included within the submitted film. Festival
authorities will not be held responsible for the unauthorized inclusion of any
copyrighted materials within or relating to the submitted film. Festival authorities
reserve the right to disqualify any film with any unauthorized inclusion of
copyrighted materials.

11. Certification by CBFC is not mandatory for entering films. However, it should be
clearly mentioned in the entry form whether or not the film has been certified by the
Central Board of Film Certification.
12. Festival authorities have the right to make copies of DVDs for pre-selection/
selection purpose and non commercial screenings.
13. The preview copies will be kept in the FTII library/archive to be used only for noncommercial and academic purposes.
14. The festival authorities reserve the right to showcase the award winning films at
various academic institutions for academic and non-commercial purposes.
15. Clippings and stills from all entries may be used for publicity in the print, electronic
or other media.
16. Cost of transportation of tapes/media and all related documents, publicity materials
from the participating institution to the Festival Office shall be borne by the
participating institution. Transportation cost for return of tapes/media will be borne
by the Festival Authorities.
17. Insurance cost on films in transit to FTII will be borne by the entrant. Festival
authorities do not undertake to insure films against technical damage, fire,
destruction, loss, or theft during transit. For normal wear and tear of materials,
festival authorities are not responsible.
18. Films selected by the pre-selection Jury will be screened at FTII during 24 28
February, 2015.
19. For promotional / publicity purposes, clippings from any film entered in the festival
may be shown on the National / International Television / Local network / Internet,
etc.
20. Decisions of the Festival Authorities regarding all matters not expressly provided for
in these regulations or which require interpretation of the clauses mentioned above
shall be final & binding on all parties.
21. Application Deadlines
a. The online application form, properly filled up, must be submitted by January 20, 2015
midnight.
b. The hard copy of the acknowledgement form and the declaration as per 2a along with
the screening and preview copies of the films and demand drafts must reach FTII, Pune by
6 pm of January 27, 2015, failing which entries will not be entertained.

In addition to the above categories, the Jury may confer other special awards or merit
certificates, without any cash prize.
* The award money will be shared between the producing institution and those principal
crew members** who have not won any individual award for that film.
**The principal crew list must be certified by the producing institution, any complaint,
appeal will not be entertained by FTII, Pune at any point of time.
