2. Would you define this study as primarily qualitative or

quantitative? Why?
I would define this study as primarily qualitative because the
results through interviews measures the changes of different selfhelp books and how they have impacted adults not negatively or
positively, but how it has changed their lives in general.
3.

What method of research was conducted?

The method used in this research was qualitative based on

observations, and interviews as well as through research made
on impacts on lives.
4.

How was the data collected for this study?

Data was collected through interviews, observations and

research.
5.

What conclusions did the authors draw from this study?

The authors concluded that such books (self-help) do not

necessarily make a positive impact on adults, but there is a lot of
learning that comes out of such books. Through the interviews
made out of a hundred people a certain amount of people were
impacted from these and a certain amount learned something
from these books, another amount of people changed something

about their everyday lives because of these books and another

amount provided examples of something in their lives that is
similar to something in the books.
6. Describe your own personal reaction to this study. Do you
think that it was valid? Using your critical eye share whether or
not you think this study is important for the real school setting.
Well first and foremost I relate this article to education because I
think of it this way; if self-help books have any kind of impact on
adults than if they are introduced into education they are to have
an impact as well. If such books are introduced to educators
which I can only imagine that they have that means that
educators are given resources to create the perfect learning
environment for their classroom as well as guidance to help
themselves better on different educational matters in the
classroom. I also believe that these books can too have an impact
on older students who are having trouble with careers, school and
other matters and they can be used to help guide students on to
different changes in their lives. I believe that this study was valid
because it does not specify the positive, or negative impact on
adults lives, but more so that there was an actual impact and
change in peoples lives.
