5. BUGFIXES IN R9A00
5.1 STM-4 PRBS checker
Configuration PRBS checker input source for the LIU OC-12/STM-4 is always set to output from the LIU
towards customer. Selecting the PRBS checker on OC-12/STM-4 input is not configured correctly, and
hence the measurement is not valid. This has been fixed in R9A00.

5.2 Lost contact alarms may give inncorrect SETS status on DXC Frame
In systems using the Shelf Assy 4 IFU DXC and the DXC Frame, lost contact alarms with plug in units can
occur if the local microcontroller experiences a SW reset. The SETS function on the DXC Frame may
temporarily provide incorrect information until the reset initialisation has been completed. This has been
fixed in R9A00.

5.3 WEB display of Ethernet Capacity in XPAND 28xE1 and 14xT1

Transmission capacity = 0.0 Mb/s is displayed for all Ethernet capacities in XPAND 28xE1 and 14xT1
systems. This is an error in the WEB display of the capacity. The Ethernet traffic is correct configured and
running without errors. This has been fixed in R9A00.

5.4 XPAND 1+0 75xE1 configuration in 1 IFU

The XPAND 1+0 75xE1 configuration in 1 IFU without plug-in unit in slot 4 is not working. This has been
fixed in R9A00.

6. BUGFIXES IN R9A01
6.1 XPAND Enhanced Direct Mapping FKCN5551D-T
The R9A01 release supports enhanced direct mapping on FKCN5551D-T.

6.2 OSPF/RIP: Erroneous Routing Entries

A defect has been identified where the default route 0.0.0.0/0 imported from RIP or as an OSPF ASE route,
could cause a fixed "kernel" routing entry for the same destination to appear in the routing table.
This could in some circumstances disturb routing in networks as kernel entry would take precedence over
static, RIP and OSPF LSA entries and could only be purged from the routing table by a sw reset. This defect
has been fixed in R9A01.

7. BUGFIXES IN R9A02
7.1 Report Generator
The report generator is only reporting the 100 oldest alarms from the Fault Event Log. This has been fixed in
R9A02 and R9B01. All alarms are reported.

7.2 SW Package Download with SSL enabled

Downloading a SW package is not working when SSL is enabled. This defect is present in R9A00 and
R9A01. The defect has been fixed in R9A02 and R9B00.

and R9A01. The defect has been fixed in R9A02 and R9B00.

7.4 Housekeeping routing manager error in METRO systems

Internal routing of data between Radio Interface Units (RIU) and Interface Units (STM-1, STM-4 and GIU)
are not correct configured when the Interface Unit is located in an IFU above the RIU or when the Interface
Unit is located in Slot 5 in the same IFU as the RIU. STM-4 Line Interface Units and Gigabit units in slot 3
are routed correctly. This defect is present for METRO systems using R9A00 and R9A01. The defect has
been fixed in R9A02 and R9B00.

7.5 RS RX Error counters are not correct

The cumulative RS RX error counters for XPAND with direct Ethernet mapping are not correct. The
counters continue to count errors after a fading event has happened and normal RF input level is regained.
This defect is present for XPAND with direct Ethernet mapping systems using R9A00 and R9A01. The
defect has been fixed in R9A02 and R9B00.

7.6 DXC Frame with Gigabit Interface Unit in Slot 4

The configuration with a Gigabit Ethernet Unit in slot 4 in a DXC Frame causes a false SUPPLY POWER
ALARM. The defect has been fixed in R9A02 and R9B00.

7.7 XPAND with STM-1 Interface generates pointer justifications events

The STM-1 interface in XPAND systems generates pointer justification events on the outgoing STM-1 Line.
The pointer justifications are generated independent of SETS configuration. This defect is present in R9A00
and R9A01. The defect has been fixed in R9A02 and R9B00.

7.8 Network Neighbour Detection

Network neighbour detection of Evolution Access and Evolution Edge is missing. The defect has been fixed
in R9A02 and R9B00.

7.9 LO Cancellation Algorithm in 311Mb/s

Looping of 25xE1/16xE1/16xT1/8xT1 Line Interface Units using the IFU test page have bit errors when the
units are located in Slot 5. This defect has been fixed in R9A02 and R9B00.

7.11 The Radio could change frequency when channels are in different radio bands
A defect regarding unintentional change of frequency or Power settings due to heavy DCC traffic have been
fixed in R9A02 and R9B01.

7.12 G.826 UAS Counter in XPAND Ethernet with Direct Mapping systems
The G.826 UAS counters for XPAND with direct Ethernet mapping are not correct. The UAS counters may
count errors that are not correct in systems with Ethernet and no PDH traffic. This defect is present for
XPAND with direct Ethernet mapping systems using R9A00 and R9A01. The defect has been fixed in
R9A02 and R9B01.

The MEN AT WORK alarm is cleared during restart of the supervisory unit. This defect is present in R9A00
and R9A01. The defect has been fixed in R9B00.

8.4 ICMP
The ICMP echo replies has not been routed according to the stack forwarding table. Instead the reply has
been sent directly to the incoming interface. This is a problem when the return path according to the routing
table is on another interface. This is easily seen on ring topologies where ping/traceroute will fail for
otherwise reachable elements when forward and return paths are different. This defect is present in R8A
releases and in R9A releases. The defect has been fixed in R9B00.

8.5 OSPF routing when Ethernet LAN is disabled

The OSPF protocol has not handled rerouting in a ring configuration when a LAN port is disconnected.
This defect is present in releases up to an including R9A01 release. The defect has been fixed in R9B00.

8.6 Housekeeping routing manager error in METRO systems

Internal routing of data between Radio Interface Units (RIU) and Interface Units (STM-1, STM-4 and GIU)
are not correct configured when the Interface Unit is located in an IFU above the RIU or when the Interface
Unit is located in Slot 5 in the same IFU as the RIU. STM-4 Line Interface Units and Gigabit units in slot 3
are routed correctly. This defect is present for METRO systems using R9A00 and R9A01. The defect has

12. INSTALLATION OF R9B03 PACKAGE

12.1 Procedure
Note1: Upgrade from R1x or R2x
Do not upgrade from Release1 or Release2 on a running system. Upgrade from Release3 and later is
OK.
The SW package prior to Release3 contained a different licensing scheme. Upgrading from Release1 or
Release2 package to any later release versions will cause traffic down. New licenses have to be installed in
order for the system to come up and operate normally again. Installing the licenses when traffic is down,
must be done by local or external (not across the link) management connection.

Note2: Traffic interruptions

Updating to R9B03 from earlier revisions than R9B00 will cause traffic interruption. Link may be
down for up to 3 - 4 minutes, depending on configuration. Please also note that the link may first come
up and run for a short period (minute) and then be down again for a short while, before running
normal.
Updating to R9B03 from revision R9B00 may cause traffic interruption. The following functionality is
affected: Evolution XPAND with Direct mapping of Ethernet and System configurations with 8xT1 in
5 MHz BW, 80xT1 in 30MHz BW and 28xE1 in 14MHz.
Updating to R9B03 from revision R9B01 may cause traffic interruption. The following functionality is
affected: System configurations with 8xT1 in 5 MHz BW, 80xT1 in 30MHz BW and 28xE1 in 14MHz.
Updating to R9B03 from revision R9B02 will not cause traffic interruption.
Download Procedure:
Use Web GUI or Netmaster to download the software package to the element. You need Admin privileges to
be able to download the new package.
For Web GUI; Select Configuration Software and the SW Download tab. Select the SW-EVOLUTIONRELEASE-APP-R9B03_1.tar file and press Download button. The package contains five .tar files and the
GUI will prompt for new files as needed.

Figure 1: Downloading tar file

Depending on what versions is on the active and inactive, the software installer will minimize the need for
transfer between web client and element. If the software is not complete after first tar, you have to choose the
second tar file. If the package becomes complete on the element, you are allowed to switch the software.
Use the SU SW Versions tab and click on Switch Software tab. The SU will restart, so the connection to the
WEB server is lost. You should be able to log in again after a short while.
Please note that with SW version R4Bxx information about the current SU is stored in the IFU Basic Frame.
As a result the SU has to be activated after the first restart running R4Bxx. Press the Set Current SU active
button displayed in figure 2. Also, the cache must be cleared after SW upgrade. If the cache is not cleared,
the web pages may not show correct information. Please refer to handbook for a description of how to clear
the cache in different browsers.

13. KNOWN PROBLEMS

13.1 OSPF Router
OSPF Routing may be inconsistent when older Nera equipment is used in the same OSPF system as
Evolution Series terminals. Affected older systems include CityLink, InterLink and CompactLink. This has
also been observed when using older Nera equipment with commercial routers.
Workaround:
Do not configure the InterLink or CityLink to be a designated router. Use static routes between the Evolution
Series terminal and InterLink or CityLink terminals.

13.2 XPAND Upgrade from R4A00

Unused XPAND PDH channels in R4A (or earlier revisions) results in enabling of unused ports and thus AIS
and LOS alarms after SW upgrade.

13.3 Memory Limitations Supervisory Unit FKCN5551A-T and FKCN5551B-T

In FKCN5551A-T and FKCN5551B-T there is a memory limitation so that maximum system configuration
is within 2 IFUs. In large configurations within 2 IFUs using 2 FNZ5695A-T/ FNZ5695B-T, the user may
experience a problem when trying to configure several auxiliary boards.
Workaround:
Use Supervisory Unit FKCN5551C-T or FKCN5551D-T in systems with large configurations.

13.4 Ethernet Configuration Mismatch Gigabit Interface Unit FNZ5695A-T

This problem is related to the Gigabit Interface Unit FNZ5695A-T
Internal lock-up in the equipment may occur if equipment Ethernet Port with Auto Speed is connected to an
external Ethernet port with fixed speed/duplex 100M Full or 10M Full.
Management and User Ethernet traffic will be lost.
Affected unit; Gigabit Interface Unit needs power up restart to recover.
Workaround:
Use the same setting both for the Evolution Series terminal and the equipment connected to it. Use either
Auto on both sides, or the same fixed setting on both sides.

13.5 Software downgrade to R6B02 or earlier revisions Gigabit Interface Unit

This problem is related to the Gigabit Interface Units FNZ5695A-T and FNZ5695B-T.
Inconsistent behaviour can occur when downgrading to R6B02 or earlier revisions with
two Gigabit LAN Ports (LAN Port 4 and LAN Port 5) enabled.
Workaround:
Disable one Gigabit LAN Port (LAN Port 4 or LAN Port 5) before downgrading.

13.6 Software downgrade to revisions earlier than R7A00

Please note that if the system is configured with R7A00 or later revision, and then an earlier SW revision is
installed, the system configured with R7A00 or later revision will be lost. This will happen even if the

configuration is supported in this earlier SW revision. When switching back to R7A00 the configuration will
be restored again.

13.7 Access rights on DXC unit and DXC Frame

Signal label information and SNCP status information is available for user with access rights MASTER and
ADMIN. Not presented to users with PASSIVE or ACTIVE access rights.

13.8 Upgrading to N+1 systems from earlier releases than R8A00

The RPS-ORDERWIRE alarm may appear after an upgrade to R8A or R9A.
Workaround:
Run through the housekeeping wizard and the system will be reinitialised so that this alarm disappears and
the orderwire channel is operational.

13.9 Memory Limitations DXC Frame

The R8A and R9A release does not support system configurations with DXC Frame when using Supervisory
Units FKCN5551A-T and FKCN5551B-T due to a memory limitation on these units. Configuration of
systems with DXC Frame is not possible on these Supervisory units. Supervisory Units FKCN5551C-T and
FKCN5551D-T supports system configurations with DXC Frame.

13.10 DXC Frame SETS status and alarm reporting.

Incorrect alarm reporting from the SETS function on the DXC Frame may occur. The event log may contain
an event sequence with SETS_SYNCHRONISATION_PRIORITY1 cleared /raised, typically for one
second. The SETS functionality itself is not affected, only the alarm status reporting.

13.11 Upgrade of Supervisory Unit from FKCN5551A/B/C-T to FKCN5551D-T.

After configuration download to FKCN5551D-T with configuration uploaded from FKCN5551A/B/C-T, the
user must reconfigure the Ethernet functionality on the supervisory unit.
