The Vancouver rules outline the internationally recognized standard for determining authorship on publications. The Vancouver Protocol states that to be credited as an author, each person must have been involved in the conception and design or analysis and interpretation of data, drafting or revising the article critically for important intellectual content, and providing final approval of the version to be published. This protocol is applied across top universities worldwide as the principle for determining legitimate authorship.
