Target Group
We would like to investigate ROTC Students or Thailands Reserve Officers Training
Corps Students. ROTC students are students that are in practice of the curriculum created by
Thailands Ministry of Defense. ROTC students are militarys reserve unit in case of
emergency or war. They are taught to be obedient and tolerant to various situation. What
ROTC students will get after finishing the course are the following : the rights to wear ROTC
uniform, military exemption, extra point for students who are going to attend military school,
and soldier rank appointment.
Target Groups Problems
We expect the group to have many problems. Since ROTC students have get a haircut
to the required length, haircut might be a problem. Second expected problem is the
inconvenient transportation. Some students might have trouble traveling to the destination.
Third predicted problem is that they might enforce money from the students. It is common
that from time to time they might come up with nonsense reasons to collect money. Fourth is
the lack of public health. For example, the toilets might not be clean. Fifth expected obstacle
is bad food. The food might taste bad or is unclean. The sixth prediction is torturing students
without logical reason. Sometimes the punishment might be too harsh.
According to our research from pantip, and Thai blog, ROTC students complain that
ROTC having bad effect on their health. Students have to travel far from school area. For
example, student have to travel across the province to reach their ROTC institute. They have
to waste time and money for travelling. Some people said that ROTC disturb their study
because they have to miss their class at school. Because they miss a lot of lesson their grade
drop. They also have problem of hair cut because every men who attend ROTC must have
short appropriate hair. Students dont like it to be so short, they have to spend money every
month on their cut that dont fit their style. It limit students freedom to choose their own
hairstyle. Lieutenants are very strict and always order unnecessary punishment. Student lose
social interaction with people who are not in ROTC.
Survey

First, we have to prepare who our target group would be. After brainstorming and
discussing, we got our focus group. We choose to focus on students who have Thai identity
and attend ROTC for at least 2 years. Next we prepare our questions. Our questions focus on
answering whether or not certain problem bugs them, or any additional problem they have.
Our last process is creating the survey. We create our survey by using form in google. After
creating our survey, we share it to our target group.
Process
Our first process is predicting and gathering problems that we think might bug our
target group. After creating our survey, we ask people to answer the survey. We start by
asking people who are close to us, such as our friends. And since we want a diverse opinion
on it, we also share it to MUIDS Army, a group in Line application, consist of grade 12
male students who attend ROTC. We also share our survey to male eleventh grader who
attend ROTC.

Survey Outcome

Our survey covers most of the problems ROTC students have in general. The majority
of ROTC students have problems with haircut, inconvenient transportation, lack of proper
healthcare, the bad effect on GPA, and harsh punishment. Some ROTC students comments
that ROTC is a waste of time. They claims that the time wasted with ROTC can be used for
something more productive. Third years ROTC students are concerned that ROTC will
interrupt their studies for college admission. The only thing that ROTC doesnt have much
effect on is the relationship with people who doesnt attend ROTC. Most of the students who
take the survey agrees that their relationship with people outside of ROTC stays the same.
We found out that most of the problems students have are problems concerned or
related to their quality of life. ROTC complains about how they are treated poorly and how
some of the rules and punishments that are dictated on them are unreasonable and
unnecessary. They are concerned that they arent receiving the rights and treatment they
should received. During ROTC, the students quality of life is pretty low. Theres still no
efforts to fix the problems the students have been complaining.
List of Problems
There are 115 students who answer the survey.
- 78.9% of people claim they have problem with ROTC.
- 65.2% of people in the survey have a problem with ROTC haircut.
- Over half of people respond that they have a problem with transportation to
ROTC camp.
- 80.5% of people respond that ROTC is lack of proper public healthcare.
- 50.9% of people respond that ROTC affect their GPA.
- 64.6% of people think that unnecessary punishment is against human right.
- Some people says that its a waste of time and those time should be used to do
something more productive.
Uncovered Opportunity
One problem that seems to uncover opportunities is transportation. Since 52.2% of the
students (out of 115 students) seem to have agreed that the transportation is an issue, maybe
this is an opportunity for transportations around the students who have a hard time traveling.
These students have to either ask their parents to take them there or go there by themselves.
And since ROTC starts at such an early time, sometimes its hard for students who travel by
themselves to find taxi or other transportation. Because of this, this is an opportunity for taxi,
motorbike taxi rider, bus, tuk tuk, BTS, and MRT.
