Vaajebhir vaajiniivatii

Meaning : O Goddess ( Devii ) Sarasvati ! You are the Goddess of speech and
knowledge.You are the greatest among the motivators of imagination and
intellect. Fill ( pra ) us with an endless flow of the treasures of knowledge and
wisdom ( vaajebhir plenitude / wealth ).
May You make our intellect ( dhii ) leap into understanding.You are the
guardian ( avitri ) of thoughts. May You protect ( avatu ) our thoughts.

Aano divo br^ihatah (f) parvataadaa sarasvatii


yajataa gantu yaGYam , havan-devii jujushhaaNaa
ghR^itaachii shagmaanno vaacham-ushatii shR^iNotu
Meaning : From the vast ( bR^ihataH ) heaven ( divo ) and from the lofty
heights ( parvataadaa mountain ) may Sarasvati approach ( gantu ) our
yagyna. She is full of clarity ( ghR^itaachii ) and takes delight ( jujushhaaNaa) in
our call or chant. Hearing ( shR^iNotu ) our call , may She bless us with the
power of Speech ( vaacha ) and the ability to chant.

Paavii-ravii kanyaa chitraayus-sarasvatii viira-patnii


dhiyandhaat gnaabhirach-chhidra ( gm ) sharaNa (gm
) sajoshaa duraadharshaa-N-gR^iNate sharmaya (
gm)sat
Meaning : Sarasvati is the maiden ( kanyaa ) who grants purity ( paaviiravii ) .
She is the wife ( patnii ) if a valiant hero ( viira ). May She support our intellect
and thought ( dhiyandhaat ). Delighted ( sajoshhaa ) with our yaGYna (
gnaa/agnii fire ), may She grant a refuge ( sharaNa(gm) ) to all who call out (
gR^iNate ) to Her ; a refuge that is perfect and impregnable

Namobhih prati stoma(gm) sarasvati jushhasva


Meaning : With surrender ( namobhih ) we make You these ( imaa ) offerings.
May this hymn ( stoma(gm) ) please ( jushhasva ) You.

Tava sharman priyatame dadhaanaaH upa-stheyaama


sharaNan na-vR^iksham
Meaning : O Beloved ( priyatame ) Sarasvati ! Established in Your ( tava )
peace,joy and tranquillity ( sharman ) , may we give ( dadhaanaaH ) ourselves
to You in complete surrender ( sharaNan ) , like a tree ( vR^iksham ) that
provides shade

Yaste-stanash-shashayo yo mayo bhuuH yena vishvaa


pushhyasi vaaryaaNi yo ratnadhaa vasuvidyaH
sudatraH sarasvati tamiha dhaatavekaH
Meaning : O Mother Sarasvati ! Please establish ( kaH ) the word in us for our
sustenance ( dhaatave ).That ( yaste ) word ( stanash ) which is Yours and is
asleep ( latent knowledge within us ).That word which originates in the world
of delight ( mayo ). That word which is exhibited in this world ( vishvaa ) and
nourishes all adorable wealth and makes us blissful.That word which when we
are aware ( vid ) of the meaning ( ratnadhaa-treasure ) bestows many gifts (
sudatraH )

Sarasvatyabhi-no neshhi vasyaH


Meaning : O Sarasvati ! Grant us ( no ) desirable riches ( vasyaH ).

Maapa-sphariiH (f) payasaa maa na aa dhak


jushhasvanas-sakhyaa veshyaa cha
Meaning : O Sarasvati ! Do not restrict our growth ( sphariiH ). Do not ( maa )
burn ( aadhak ) us with the rays of knowledge.Please be happy ( jushhasva )
with our ( nas ) friendly ( sakhyaa ) entrance ( veshyaa )

Maa-tvat KhetraaNy-araNaani gamma


Meaning : May we not return ( gamma- go ) from You to barren fields (
kshetraaNy )
Note : payasaa means milk and also knowledge.Fields refer to planes or levels
of knowledge and understanding.This stanza is a prayer for knowledge,so that
our fields of understanding are not barren.At the same time it is a humble
request not to reveal knowledge that we are not prepared to receive that may
burn us with its intensity due to our unpreparedness.

Iya(gm) shushhmebhir-bisakhaa ivaarujat saanu


giriiNaan-tavishhebhi-ruurmibhiH
paaraavadaghniim-avase suvR^iktibhiH sarasvatiimaa
vivaasema dhiitibhiH
Meaning : Mother Sarasvati by Her mighty ( tavishhebhi ) waves and forces,
broke ( rujat ) our ignorance ( giriiNaan-mountains) like weak fibres.She
reaches the beyond ( paaraavadaghniim ).We worship Her by our hymns of
praise and by our thoughts of protection ( avase )

Meaning : Sarasvati is full of plenitude ( vaajinivatii ) of life-giving powers (
vaajebhir ).May Sarasvati , Who is the embodiment of Truth,purify (
paavakaaH) us ( naH ) by removing our falsehood and ignorance.May She ,
Who is endowed with the treasure of understanding and wisdom (
dhiyaavasuH) desire to attend our yaGYa.May She lead ( chodayitrii-impel ) us
to happiness and Truth ( sunr^itaanaaM ) ; awaken ( chetantii ) right
understanding ( sumatii ) within us and uphold ( dadhe-grant ) this yaGYa

Shivaa nash-shantamaa-bhava sumR^iDiikaa sarasvati


ma ate vyoma sandR^ishi
Meaning : Let the auspiciousness (shivaa ) of Goddess Sarasvati give us ( nash )
Supreme happiness ( sumr^iDiikaa ) and keep ( bhava ) us in peace (
shantamaa )
Let there be no ( maa ) visible gap between You and us.Reveal ( sandR^ishi ) to
us the highest consciousness ( vyoma-heaven )
