Heading toward graduation, there are many goals I had accomplished during my time here at Iowa State

University. Not only I had learnt so much from the courses in my major, but I also gained an
understanding of myself and of the world throughout the general education courses that the university
enabled me to take.
I had taken three Economic courses: Econ 101, Econ 102, and Econ 301. The first two courses helped me
have a better understanding of how money works around everyone. The courses had shown me that
everything, from as micro as some personal expenses to as macro as a countrys finance, is as complex
as it is important. I would say that this is usually part of what drive innovation, since engineering is all
about making things as cost efficient as possible without violating any code ethic. The third Economic
course was all about how to apply calculus into economic. This class tied all of my knowledge from my
calculus classes with all of the previous economic courses. That course helped me have a deeper
understanding of how economic works, as it explained that economic can also be represented by
numbers and functions that could be applied upon with calculus. These Economic courses helped me be
prepared for my future profession because making profit will always be one of the primary goals for any
company, hence knowing how economics work is a knowledge that an engineer needs to know.
I had also taken two more courses that helped me in completion of the General Education requirement:
HDFS 276 and ARCH 321. HDFS 276 is about human sexuality, and ARCH 321 is about architecture
history. While these courses taught me knowledge of different subjects, they helped me appreciate and
understand everything around me. HDFS 276 helped me learn about how different each individual is and
how understanding each other is so important. ARCH 321 taught me to appreciate my surroundings,
since any people or even object has a story, and all of them are worth appreciating. These two classes
not only helped me become more humane as I have a more understanding of my surroundings, they
also helped me how hard but necessary it is to cooperate and work with people with a variety of
backgrounds. I got a better understanding how innovation and engineering cannot be achieve alone,
and it takes a lot of tolerant for different people to actually co-exist in a professional work place.
Even though I learned so much and achieved so much goals, I still have many objectives lie ahead of my
future. My short-term goal is to land a full-time position at an industrial environment, it would be ideally
if I could work with projects that I could put the knowledge I learnt here at Iowa State University to good
use. My long-term goal is that I want to build my profession and leadership for a course of 10 years or
more and I would like to come back to earn a higher education, which at that time would help me
progress in my career.
