    The Manchurian Crisis began in September 1931 when Japanese troops sabotaged a railway in China and blamed China, leading to attacks on a nearby village. Japan then left the League of Nations in 1933. In 1937, Japan captured the Chinese capital of Nanking, where between 200,000-300,000 civilians were killed during the subsequent occupation, with widespread rape and looting reported. Japan wanted to build an empire through force as tariffs hurt Japanese goods exports and the country still faced food shortages in the aftermath of World War 1. The League of Nations rejected China's plea for help as Japan claimed self-defense before attacking China again in November 1931.

    Timeline
    -Started on the 18th of september 1931, Japanese troops sabotaged a railway
    and blamed the Chinese. This led to the Japanese attacking the nearby
    garrisoned village.
    -In march 1933 Japan left the LON.
    -In 1937 the Japanese captured the capital of the Republic of China Nanking. The
    Rape of Nanking was a mass murder by the Japanese forces, between 200,000300,000 civilians were killed. There are also reports of widespread rape and
    looting during the occupation.

    Why did it happen?


    -Tariffs against Japanese goods.
    -The american Stock market was in a crisis.
    -There were still food shortages, as ww1 did
    a lot of damage to the infrastructure of most
    countries that were involved in the war.
    -Japan wanted to build its empire by force.

    -Chinese delegates pleaded for the help of
    the LON.
    -LON rejected, as Japan claimed it was self
    defence.
    -Japan attacked china on the 16th of
    November 1931.
