Annotated Bibliography: Drug Testing
Research Question: Is Drug Testing more prevalent now than it was in 2001?
Ehrenreich Barbara. Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By In America. Henry
Holt and Company. 1 January 2001. 25 September 2016.
In the book Nickle and Dimed, The mentioning of drug testing in chapter 3
was relevant to our topic. Barbara was worried about the drugs still in her system
that she took, as the job she was applying for was strict on it. A poster hung on the
wall as she was interviewed saying Dont waste mine or your time. Meaning
Walmart did not want anyone to waste their time or ours as they follow the strict
policy of no drugs. The authors purpose to use this was to show the relevance in
2001, of drug testing and to emphasize on the subject in nom verbal ways.
This quote proved to be very useful in our poster, as it reflected our topic of
drug testing relevance now and then. Gives us a reliable source about drug testing
back in 2001. Could have been tough to find a legitimate source from 2001 online,
but the book perceptive it accurately. This information quoted in the book changed
my perception of the topic because I did not think drug testing was as relevant back
then as it is now. The source overall used in the book was useful to our group topic
of drug testing.

Texas: OSHA Promotes Workplace Safety by Limiting Drug and Alcohol Testing? US
Official News 12 July 2016. Infotrac Newsstand. Web 14 Sept. 2016.
This article by a Texas official, states that drug testing should be relevant to ensure
employees are not working under the influence of Alcohol or drugs. The argument of workplace
safety is most important and drug testing should be in place to make sure no one gets injuries.
Using incentives to employees to stay drug free is becoming more relevant in places to save
injuries in the workplace. The penalties for using drugs while working is going up and up to try
and persuade employees to stay drug free.
The information from this source are reliable based on the fact it is studies from the
workforce place and information gathered by Texas officials. I found this source to be unbiased
because workplace safety is emitted all over in every company not just in Texas. The source was
useful to our group as it portrayed a perfect example of in 2016 drug testing prevalent in the
workplace to ensure safety. The biggest thing showed now a days is safety in the workforce and
drug testing is really harnessing that down. The source overall provide good information about
our topic of drug testing prevalence now.

to employees in the workplace. Some people are using drugs for medical purposes and might not
want to tell the establishment because it invades their privacy. This article overall provided good
facts on the opposing viewpoint.
This source is debatable on reliability as it was biased and only gave us the information
on how it invades an individuals privacy. I found the source useful as giving us an opposing
view point on the topic of drug testing relevancy in some wanting to get rid of it. It challenged
my view point on people thinking drug testing invades privacy, opening my eyes to a new
discussion. The article did show relevancy as people think drug testing in the workforce now a
days is becoming too much. Overall this article gave our group good information on drug testing.
