The PQRR 41 - Setting new standards

,n the Farr 41 our aim was to continue the same philosophy we used
in the development of the Farr 51. This time the vessel was to be a 41
footer but again one which would be a superb cruising yacht with
exceptional passage making capabilities, one which was not only easy to
handle but fun to sail and above all a fast yacht. In fulfilling this brief
Bruce Farr has illustrated why he is universally recognised as the
greatest yacht designer in the world today. The Farr 41 does all we
hoped it would and more.

In the construction of the Farr 41 we have again aimed at world's best

yacht building practice. The style, interior finish, attention to detail and
standard of joinery is equal to that usually only associated with exotic
one-off craft.

In sourcing equipment to outfit the Farr 41 we have looked for the best
available. Many of the plumbing and lighting fixtures are items we have
imported ourselves from Italy. The deck hardware is the best from both
the U.S.A. and Australia, the engine a Swedish Volvo saildrive and the
steering nnule for us in the United Kingdom. The keel is poured from
antimony hardened lead.

Comments from experienced yachtsmen who have seen and sailed the
Farr 41 have been full of praise and can be summarised in the statement
"Billies Yachts' Farr 4! has set a new standard for production yai his of

J he layout : In the interior of the burr 41 we have largely

replaced straight furniture lines with graceful, flowing curves and
elliptical shapes. Besides creating an air of elegance, the curves
enable the room in the vessel to be better utilised, producing a
feeling of space. The large saloon features an angled oval table
with two drop-leaves. There is an extensive navigation area with
wrap around instrument panels, chart stowage and a comfortable
navigator's chair which will swivel so it can also be used for
dining. On the port side of the vessel is a very comprehensive
galley designed to keep the cook happy in port and secure
underway. The galley incorporates a deep, double bowl sink with
a plentiful supply of piping hot water, a large stainless steel
gimballed gas oven with grill and huge refrigeration and deep
freeze chests. There are drawers and ample locker space for food
and utensils.

J he Farr 41 is outfitted with three double cabins, each with

its own hanging and other lockers. The bunks are queen size with
stowage beneath. The vessel has two heads, the aft head, in
addition to sening the main saloon, has a door to the starboard
aft cabin providing this area with ensuite facilities. Both heads
incorporate showers with self-draining sumps. The toilet in the
forward head can be directed to pump into the holding tank if
required.

\,bove Deck: The spacious cockpit leads
to a closeable walkway in the trilnsom which
gives access to the swim platform and boarding
ladder. Also built into the transom is a life raft
locker. Two large self draining cockpit lockers
are located under the side decks aft. Centrally at
the aft end of the cockpit is a binnacle supporting
a large wheel, the compass and a folding cockpit
table. Primary winches are fitted into recesses in
the coamings port and starboard close to a pair
of coaming lockers. Three winches and banks of
jammers on the aft end of the cabin top
accommodate the main sheet halyards and
control lines which run under a deck hood to the
cockpit. Light, vision and ventilation has been
given priority with hull topside windows, opening
ports in the cabin sides and opening deck hatches.
Forward is a bowsprit to facilitate easy operation
and stowage of the anchor. A poweiful electric
anchor winch is located on the foredeck.

J^he
. he mast is keel stepped and tapered at the
head. It has two sets of spreaders rigged with
caps, diagonals, aft lowers and a babystay. An
inner forestay can befitted in lieu of the baby stay
if required. The boom has tracks top and bottom
and is fitted with a rod vang. There is a jib furler
forward and the main is set up for simple reefing
with full length battens and bat tears. A
permanent boom cover with lazy jacks attached
makes stowing the main an easy, one person job.

Options available on the PQRR 41

J he world's large mass production builders add options to their

completed yachts: our small production enables us to make yachts
for individual customers designing and building in additional items
from the beginning. Besides achieving a better result this method
will often enable us to incorporate many options into the Farr 41
which could not possibly be fitted after the vessel is completed. An
owner who is planning extensive long distance cruising had us
replace a double aft berth with a single, utilising the space saved for
a work bench, gear pigeon holes and bin stowage for an inflatable
dinghy. We have a number of standard options such as the open
pilot house fitted to the yacht in the photos.
Additional
instrumentation, an autopilot, or an A.C. electrical system are some
of the extra items often fitted. We have extensive knowledge of
fitting many of the vast range of accessories which are available to
the yacht owner today and are happy to advise and help plan the
installation of any additional equipment you feel you may require.
