1. Overview(1point)
OnOctober19,2016IhadtheprivilegeofgoingovertoClevelandElementary
Schoolandteachmylesson.Itaughttwentyfourthandfifthgradersalessononsoccer
withafocusonpassing,offense,anddefense.Forsafetyreasonsandmoresufficient
playingsurfaceItaughtmylessononthegrassarea.Thepreviouslylearnedskillsformy
lessonthatdaywerepassinganddribblingfrommylessonthatItaughtonthe17 th.The
requiredequipmentweretwosoccerballs,twentypolyspots,andfourconesthatwere
usedfortwodifferentactivities,bothmyinstantactivityandtasktwoofmylesson.

2. StudentLearningOutcomes(6points)
Mystudentlearningobjectiveswerethesamefromlastweek,IkepttheMVPA
lowandfocusedmoreonmanagingtheclassratherthanlettingthembeoutof
control.Iwantedtogetthemtoreallyhaveanunderstandingaboutwhatthe
directionswereandtheCOTSsothattheycouldbesuccessfulwhenitcametime
foractivity.MygoalforMVPAwasnotmetbutmygoalsforPsychomotorand
Cognitive which were; Psychomotor: SWBAT demonstrate the COTS for
kicking a soccer ball to a partner with 75% success rate. SWBAT pass to a
partner8/10timesundercontrol.Cognitive:SWBATreciteandacknowledgethe
COTSofthesoccertask,passingandstoppingtheballwith85%accuracy.Being
thatIhad6minutesand45secondsinactivity,6minutesand30secondsof

instruction,and13minutesand15secondsofmanagement,itgoestoshowthat
ittakesupalot ofmytimemanagingthe class.Idontwant tochange my
MVPA,Iwanttokeepitthesameandbuilduptothatbyusingitasagoaland
onceIgettoitthenIcouldmakechangestomyhealthrelatedfitnessSLO.I
couldalsogiveclearerinstructionforthestudentstoknowexactlywherethey
needtogoorwhattheyneedtodo.EventhoughtalotofthetimesIdocheckfor
understandingandtheytellmetherightanswer,yetwhenitcomestimetodoit
theyforget.

3. CreatingaQualityLearningEnvironment(5points)
IdobelievethatIwassuccessfulataddressingthe4criteriaofthelearning
experience.Iwasabletoimproveskillandperformanceofthestudentswith
passing.Ipurposelyrepeatedadrillfrommyfirstlessontoseeiftheyhave
improvedatall,andtheydid.Itwasalotmoreundercontrolthenthefirsttime.
Thelessonwasmostcertainlyatanobtainablelevelforallthestudents.Iwas
also able to provide maximum practice time for all the students by having
everyonegetthesameopportunitiesastheirneighboringclassmates.Ididthisby
givingthestudentsasmuchtimeastheyneededtofeelgoodabouttheactivityto
wheretheycan,notonlyshowmewhatitshouldlooklike,butalsotellme.
AccordingtomyTimeAnalysissystematicobservationIwasat25.5%
activity,24.5%instruction,and50%management.IfIcouldswitchmytimethat
Iusedformanagementwiththetimeofactivitythatwouldmakemylessonplan
perfect,butnothingisperfectandthereisalwaysroomforimprovement.Itisa
challengetogetforactivitythaneitherinstructionormanagement,especially

withfourthandfifthgraders.TheonlythingthatIcanthinkofchangingwould
askmorecheckforunderstandingquestionsandbealittlecleareronwhatIwant
themtodo.Onethingthatdidworkwellformethisweekismakingmytask2
from my first lesson be my task 1 for my second lesson, but make it more
challenging.Thishelpswithinstructionbecausetheyalreadyhaveastrongbase
ideaofhowtodoit.

4. Strengths&WeaknessesinPedagogicalskillset(8points)
Usethefollowingquestionstohelpassessyourstrengths/weaknesses:

DuringthelessonImovedacrosstheentirespaceduringtheactivityto
ensurethateveryonewasontask.Themoreteachermovementinthisclass,the
moretheywillbefocusedonthetaskweareworkingon.Imovedaroundthe
perimeterandthroughthemiddleofthelesson.Ioccasionallytriedtoputmyself
inthelessontotryandmotivatethestudentsmore.IprovidedtheCOTSseveral
differenttimesinorderforthestudentstoknowwhatisbeingaskedofthemto
doinordertoperformthetasksuccessfullyandfluently.Iwouldfirstverbally
givetheCOTSwhileshowingthemwhatitshouldlooklikeinfrontoftheclass,
thenIwouldcallthestudentsuptodothesamethingIdidinfrontoftheclass.I
wouldalsorepeattheCOTSinthemiddleofthelesson.Ieitherstoppedthe
entireclassorgaveindividualfeedbackontheCOTS.

Given that my lesson was spent with the majority of my time in


management,itwasbecausetryingtotransitionthestudentssmoothlyandunder

control.Theonlydisruptivestudentsweretheoneswhodidntquitelistento
directions becausetheywouldhave sideconversations.The wayIdealtwith
themwassimplywalkinguptothemandaskingthemtorepeatwhatIsaid,and
tellthemthattheyneedtolisten.Ididshowenthusiasmandthestudentswere
verywellbehavedandseemedtowanttobethere.

5. Recommendationsfornextsession(4points)

ThemostimportantthingthatIwouldliketoimproveisgettingmyactivityup
more.IdontwanttomakeanyhugechangesinmyteachingIjustwanttogetthe
studentstoimproveontheirlisteningskills.BasedonwhatIachievedthisweekIwould
liketokeepmySLOsthesameformynextlessons.
