Defination and types


Tablets are solid unit dosageform,
prepared by compression or
moulding.

Tablet triturates are are unit
dosageform of potent drug made
by moulding method, intended for
oral or sublingual administration.

Principle
Rapidly dispersible
Disintegrate quickly

Formulation
They contain little or no binder.
Since they are used for
administration of potent drug
diluents are important additive.
Lactose ( or ), sucrose, mannitol
They contain triturations

Method of preparation
Apparatus used is upper plate with
several holes and plate with
corrosponding pegs
Smooth paste of drug and diluent
made with some liquid
Paste is pressed into holes with
spatula into upper plate which is kept
on tile.
Filled Upper plate is placed on lower
plate (with pegs)
Paste retain on pegs left to dry at
room temperature.

Apparatus for moulding

Container/storage
Air tight container or Well closed
plastic or glass jar.
Packing in single row in a tube with
closure.

PILLS
Small oval solid unit dosageform for
oral use
They can be coated to mask the
taste of bitter taste substance.
Now a days they have been replaced
by compressed tablets and capsule

Adhesive- Acacia mucilage
Preparation
The API is triturated with powdered
excipients in serial dilutions to attain a
uniform mixture.
Liquid excipients that act to bind and
provide plasticity to the mass are
subsequently added
