I believe a paraprofessional is an essential asset of the Multiple Disabilities (MD)
classroom and/or general education classroom. My belief is that a paraprofessional needs to love children in order to give the quality assistance and teaching to any student. Paraprofessionals need to be able to support the academic and behavioral needs of each student. This requires following the rules and discipline policy of the classroom and school. I believe a para needs to follow the lead of the teacher and accept criticism when given. The teacher is the foremost authority of the classroom. The major goal of the paraprofessional is to assist the teacher in different situations to provide a safe and comfortable place for the students. My belief is that a paraprofessional should follow the code of ethics and engage in a continual learning environment. My role of a paraprofessional is to provide a positive influence and a good role model for the students that I come in contact with. I believe as an educator, a paraprofessional should always been punctual, prepared, professional, and respectful to all of the educators, students, and parents. My desire as a paraprofessional is to collaborate with the educational team and show all respect to those of authority. Believing that all students can express themselves and share their opinions in a manner, which is respectful to others. I believe that a paraprofessional needs to follow the disciplinary procedures in the classroom. This belief should help the children understand the rewards and consequences of the actions associated with behavior. I will accept constructive criticism when given and learn from the mistakes. I believe this opportunity can show the students that mistakes can be a positive learning experience. I believe in assisting the students in their academic and social goals is important for them to be a functional part of the classroom, school, home, and community. I understand that each classroom is full of diversity and I will help provide the adapted learning materials supporting each students individual learning style. I believe a paraprofessional needs to provide assistance and guidance whenever and wherever required to allow a child with a disability to function in the classroom, school, home, and community. In working with children with disabilities, obtaining knowledge of a childs disability is important to provide them with the best possible care and education. I will continue to learn new technology, new teaching methods and strategies in order to provide the best education for the children. I will encourage and promote a successful learning atmosphere. I will help each student to accept and show respect to each other for who they are with or without a disability. I will show love and compassion to all children. I will show love and compassion by giving a side hug or an age appropriate response to allow each child to feel safe and secure. I will respect their parents/caregivers and offer support when and where it is needed as directed by the teacher. My goal as a paraprofessional is to provide the best learning atmosphere for children with disabilities and provide them the opportunity to be an asset to our community.
