University Teaching-Texas Tech University

2013-2016
Instructor of Record
Essential Elements of Music (a music class offered to elementary education majors)
I designed a curriculum for my sections of MUSI 2301 Essential Elements of Music which
emphasized and explored three goals for my students: to develop as musicians, to be able to speak
intelligently about music and to be comfortable using music in the classroom setting. Through
peer teaching episodes, students had the opportunity to develop lesson plans, create musical tools
for learning and practice effective teaching techniques. They also attended three universitysponsored concerts or recitals and wrote a concert review over each. Finally, my students learned
songs, singing games and recorder pieces which helped them develop skills in musicianship.
2015-2016
Teaching Assistant
Woodwind Methods
I assisted Dr. Jacqueline Henninger with Woodwind Methods Class, a course designed to
familiarize students with beginning flute, clarinet and saxophone pedagogy. I taught the class in
Dr. Henningers absence, contributed to instruction as appropriate in class, video-recorded the
students during peer teaching episodes and assisted with grading written and video-submitted
assignments.
