ABSTRACT
Measurements play a significant role on ones life. It gives people a visual and mental
picture of how the world looks. From small steps up to great leaps, it all involves
measurements. This study entitled Accuracy of Measuring the Height of an Object through
Photograph is done for the purpose of determining the height of an object to be more efficient
and less effort and manner. Three objects were used to be tested namely, light post, pole, and a
basketball ring. This will eventually help future researchers, architects, engineers and the
researcher as well in measuring the height of great distances. Three objects was tested and
each object has three trials each and named Trial A, Trial B, and Trial C accordingly each of the
objects, that have different distances. The resulting data showed the formula H = (d x Tan ) +
p; where H is the approximate height of the object, d is the distance of the model/ person to the
object being measured, is the angle of elevation from the upper tip of the model/ person to the
object and p is the height of the model/ person being used.

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Everything here on earth depends on measurement. Houses cant be built without
measurements; foods are sold by the different measures; in schools, all curriculums integrate
the study of measurements, which is an essential part of everyones lives. With all these, people
cant live without measurements.
Prehistoric people used the things abundant on their surroundings including their body
due to lack of measuring devices. These body parts are utilized to determine the quantities and
calculations of different objects. There were no systems of measurement used by that time. It
comprises their thumb for an inch, palm for width, arm span for meter, leg for height , and foot
for feet.
Definition of Terms

Accuracy it is the condition or quality of being true, correct or exact. As defined in

Physics and Chemistry, it is the extent to which a given measurement agrees with the
standard value for that measurement.
Height it is the distance from the base of something to the top.
Measurement it is a way of comparing certain attribute of an object with some given
standard.
Photograph it is an image created by light falling on a light-sensitive surface, usually
photographic film or an electronic imager such as a CCD or a CMOS chip.
Point-and-Shoot Camera also called as a compact camera, it is a still camera
designed primarily for simple operation. Most use focus free lenses or autofocus for
focusing, automatic systems for setting the exposure options, and have flash units built
in.

RESEARCH PLAN
Materials and Methods
Point-and-shoot camera was used to take one photograph to each trials showing the
different variables needed such as the distance of the model/ person to the object, the angle of
elevation and the height of the model/ person.
Treatment/ General Procedure
The formula was tested and analyzed to its accuracy through observation.

CONCLUSIONS
Based on the experiments, the use of photograph had a good description on the
experiment and contributed much on the accuracy of the measurement. The photograph is
effective in measuring the height of an object by the accuracy of the measurements based on
the given height and distance.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Further studies have to address four points: measuring of objects scaling of large
distances, using first different setups in determining and concluding in approximate
measurement of the object, using a photograph on finding measurements of inclined objects,
applying the photograph in another way of measuring any kind of object in the improvement
brought to the society.
