1. For each of the following data, explain whether it is collected from a population or a

a) The values of auto insurance claims filed in 2015 for 200 randomly selected policies.
b) Opinions on a certain issue obtained from all adults living in a city.
c) The number of left-handed students in each of 50 classes selected from a given
university.

2. An accounting firm has introduced 5S to the staffs to improve the working environment.
In order to identify the effectiveness of the system, a survey was done on the staffs of
Auditing Unit. The manager selected 25 workers and found that 75% agree that the new
system is effective. Based on this situation, identify :

3. Indicate which of the following variables are quatitative or qualitative.

b) Find the standard deviation for the test scores.

5. In a survey, 200 adults were asked whether they use a smartphone and whether they use an
iPhone. The results showed that four in ten adults surveyed us a smartphone. Of the adults

surveyed that use a smartphone, five in ten use an iPhone. Find the probability that a
randomly selected adults use an iPhone and use a smartphone.

6. Two thousand randomly selected adults were asked whether or not they have ever watch a
football game. The following table gives a two-way classification of the responses.
