MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Catholic School Council (CSC) Newsletter!
If this is your first year at St. Joes, welcome!
If not, welcome back! It is our hope, that
with increased communication about the
events and activities at the school, we can
increase parental engagement with the
school council. To this end, we've established
a social media presence with our blog and
Facebook page (see page 2). And now, we'll
try and get even more information to you,
even more quickly with the CSC Newsletter.
The aim is to have an issue out once every
month, within a week of that month's CSC
meeting.
So, now that I have your attention, I cordially
invite you to become part of the new
guard with the St. Joseph CSC. Many of our
members have moved on as their children
graduated from St. Joes, and we could greatly
benefit from the experience and talents
of new members. Last year, it was new
members to the CSC who took the reigns
and organized and ran two of our biggest
events of the year! Our Valentines dance
was a smashing success, run by Ms. Edwards
and Ms. Boem, and our end-of-year Fun Fair,
helmed by Ms. Hogan-Cathcart, was one of
the most ambitious and most attended. It
is events like these, and others, that foster
a spirit of community and kindness at St.
Joseph.
I am very grateful to past members of
the council who have built such a solid
foundation for us to work from. The CSC has
a positive impact, and benefits the school,
your child, and you!

Have a say at St. Joes. Have an impact on

the quality of the education and school life
of your child. Show your child that their
education is important, and you are in it with
them, supporting them, and supporting their
school!
I must emphasise that if you attend
meetings, you are not obligated to participate
or to volunteer. There is no minimum
amount of time or effort that you have to
volunteer either! You can give as little, or as
much of yourself and your time that you are
able. If you are not able to attend meetings,
we still want your feedback! Please email us

We'd love to see you there, even if you just come to observe! We'll be discussing
upcoming events and fundraisers, as well as events and happenings at the school.

Spirit Wear
We're looking into a new sale on spirit wear
t-shirts! These shirts are great for supporting
our St. Joes kids at sporting events, for wearing
during gym class, and on spirit days!
T-shirts will be offered in 2 options at two
price points (to be determined). 100%
cotton, which was what was previously
sold, and a dry-wick fabric blend. More
information to come on this, so stay tuned!

Parent Outreach
Wheels are in motion for this years Parents
Reaching Out events!
There will be presentations for parents on
health issues, such as anxiety experienced
by students and their families, and ways
parents can support their children's
achievement and well-being. Dates are to be
determined.
We want your feedback! What events or
presentations do you want to see at St.
Joes? What issues are of concern to you?
Application deadline for next years PROgrant will be here before we know it!

Committee Leads and

Volunteers Needed
We have two upcoming events that are in need
of volunteers, the Family Advent Wreath Night,
and the Family Movie Night.
Don't worry if you've never been a
committee lead before, there's a first
time for everyone! These are events that
we have every year, and so we have a
pretty good sense of what's required,
and you'll have the support of the entire
CSC if you need any help or have any
questions. If you're up to the challenge,
email us at stjoescscinfo@gmail.com.

Meet-the-Teachers BBQ
Thanks to Anne Gorcey and Steve Murphy for
organising the BBQ!
And thanks to everyone who attended! This
annual event is always a great opportunity
to meet your child's teachers, and other
parents, while enjoying a dog and a bevvie!
Funds raised this year will go towards the
cost of next year's agendas!

Family Movie Night

December 1, 2016

This years movie night will have two showings. One at 6pm for grades 1-4 and one
at 8:15pm for grades 5 and up. Parents must be present to supervise their children.
The early showing will be of Finding Dory, while the later showing is yet to be
determined. Any suggestions? Flyers will be sent out at a later date with more
information as it becomes available! We are still in need of a commitee lead on this
event, so please contact us if you think you can help out!

Family Advent Wreath Night

November 21, 2016
We're making some changes to the Family Wreath Night! This
year, we hope to have a skit or story-telling about the
significance of the wreath, the candles, and why we undertake
the tradition of lighting the Advent Wreath each year!
Come out to refresh your wreath, and learn about the
tradition. Its a fun festive night, that's a great lead
in to the holiday season! This event is also without a
committee lead at the moment, so please contact us to
volunteer! As this is an annual event, we have the to-do
list in place, we just need someone to execute it!
