SEATTLE MARINERS WINTER LEAGUE UPDATE

Games of October 26, 2015


IT IS GOOD TO BE A TYLER: C Tyler Marlette has hit safely in 4 of 5 games with the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League.
Overall he is batting .350 (7x20) with 5 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 6 RBI and 2 walks in 5 games. Marlette, 21, hit .277
(104x376) with 46 runs scored, 23 doubles, 1 triple, 15 hme run,s 59 RBI, 33 walks and 6 stolen bases combined between A
Bakersfield and AA Jackson. OF Tyler ONeill has hit safely in 7 of 8 games with the Javelinas, batting .270 (10x37) with 9 runs
scored, 3 doubles, 3 home runs scored, 3 doubles, 3 home runs, 8 RBI, 2 walks and 1 stolen base. He currently leads the Arizona Fall
League in home runs (3) and total bases (22), while also ranking T1st in extra-base hits (6), 2nd in at-bats (37) and HR/AB ratio
(1/12.33), T3rd in RBI (8) and runs scored (9). ONeill, 21, hit .293 (144x492) with 68 runs scored, 26 doubles, 4 triples, 24 home runs
and 102 RBI in 130 games with Jackson in 2016.
AFL ROUNDUP: RHP Dylan Unsworth is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA (1 ER, 6.0 IP) in 2 starts with the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall
League. He was limited opponents to a .333 (8x24) average, while walking 0 and string out 3. Prior to his starts on Oct. 15 wit hteh
Javelinas, he had not pitched in a game since June 7 vs. Pensacola with AA Jackson. Unsworth was limited to only 9 starts with
Jackson after being placed on the disabled list May 21-June 4 and June 8-end of the season with a left hamstring strain. He was named
to the Southern League All-Star team, going 3-1 with a 1.16 ERA (6 ER, 46.2 IP) in 9 starts with the Generals before his injury.
PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF: C Jesus Sucre is batting .333 (4x12) with 1 run scored 4 games with the Navegantes del
Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League. After being recalled to Seattle in Sept., Sucre hit .647 (11x17) with 4 runs scored, 2
doubles, 1 home run, 5 RBI and 2 HBP in 6 games with the Mariners.
ITS A BOOG THING: OF Boog Powell has hit safely in 3 of his first 4 games with 2 multi-hit contests with Aguilas Cibaenas in the
Dominican Winter League. Overall Powell is batting .429 (6x14) with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, 1 walk and 1 stolen base in 4 games.
WHAT A START: RHP Kevin Gadea recorded a no decision in his last start on Oct. 21, allowing only 5 hits over 5.0 scoreless innings
(5.0,4,0,0,2,3). In 2 starts with Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League, he is 1-0, while tossing 10.0 scoreless innings (3 BB, 5
K). He split the 2016 season between the AZL Mariners (6/16-7/12) and Clinton (7/12-end of season), going 4-1 with 2 saves and a 2.36
ERA (18 ER, 68.2 IP) in 15 games/8 starts. He combined to limited opponents to a .217 (56x258) average, while walking 14 and striking
out 95. Gadea averaged 12.45 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (95 K, 68.2 IP), including striking out a season-high 10 batters 3 times.
SEAGER BELIEVER: Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager has been named one of 7 finalists for the 2017 Hutch Award. Seager and his
wife Julie have been involved with the Vs. Cancer Foundation since its inception in 2014. Vs. Cancer is a nonprofit organization dedicated
to saving kids lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts. Last year Seager started the
Seager Vs. Cancer challenge where he, along with his wife and the Seattle Mariners, hosted donors to batting practice and to watch a
game, with funds raised being donated to Seattle Children's Hospital and Strong Against Cancer. He has been a wonderful addition to the
organization both on and off the field also supporting the American Heart Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound, United
Way of King County and the Refuse to Abuse Campaign. This year well celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the Hutch Award at the Hutch
Award Luncheon while raising funds to benefit cancer research at Fred Hutch. Presented each year in Seattle at Safeco Field, and ranked
as one of the top annual awards given to a Major League Baseball player, the Hutch Award recognizes the MLB player who best
exemplifies the fighting spirit and competitive desire of the legendary leader and Seattle native, Fred Hutchinson.

Best Farm System, Top Offensive Player (OF Tyler ONeill), Best Team (AA Jackson Generals) and Game of the Year (High-A
Bakersfield Blaze). ONeill hit .293 (144x492) with 68 runs scored, 26 doubles, 4 triples, 24 home runs and 102 RBI in 130 games with
Jackson. He set a career-high with 102 RBI, leading all Mariners farmhands in RBI this season. Among Southern League leaders he led
the league in RBI (102), slugging percentage (.508), OPS (.882), extra-base hits (54), total bases (256) and intentional walks (4), while
also ranking 2nd in home runs (24), home runs per at-bat (20.50) and on-base percentage (.374), 4th in average (.293), 5th in hits (144),
walks (62) and total plate appearances (575), 6th in at-bats (492), T6th in doubles (26) and 8th in runs scored (68) and games played
(130). ONeill, who represented Canada on the World Team in the 2016 Futures game, was a Player of the Week (May 23-29), Player of
the Month (May), Mid-Season All-Star, Postseason All-Star, and Southern League MVP. He was also named Southern League Player of
the Year by Baseball America and named to the Baseball America Minor League All-Star Team as an outfielder.
