This document contains two tutorial problems. The first problem involves calculating the current and drawing the impedance triangle for a series RLC circuit connected to a 300V, 50Hz supply, and drawing its selectivity curve to identify the resonant point. The second problem involves calculating the impedance, current, voltages across resistance and inductance, and phase angle between voltage and current for an RL circuit with a 200sin500t V applied voltage.

1. A coil of resistance 5 and inductance 120 mH in series with a 100 F capacitor, is
connected to a 300 V, 50 Hz supply. Calculate the current flowing and draw the impedance triangle of the circuit. Identify the dominant of the circuit. a) Draw the selectivity curve and identify the resonance point. b) List two (2) characteristics of a resonance. 2. A coil consists of a resistance of 100 and an inductance of 200 mH. If an alternating voltage given by V = 200 sin 500t volts is applied across the coil, calculate: i. the circuit impedance. ii. the current flowing. iii. the voltage across the resistance and the inductance. iv. the phase angle between voltage and current.
