SINGAPORE HISTORY CITY LEARNING COMMUNITY


Singapore is one of the most globalized places on earth. It is a port city that
for centuries attracted merchants and travellers from India,China and Southeast Asia
and beyond.They designed a clear system of expectations that allowed for professional
reality and created a world class education system to much even though Singapore is
just a small country but they were rich in any aspects especially when it come to there
educational system. Singapore education system has been describe as world-leading
and in 2010 was among those picked out for commendation by the former British tory
education secretary Michael Gove. In terms of education system in Singapore they are
also emerging as a place for pursuing higher education.The Ministry of
Education( MOE) is responsible for controlling the development and administrations of
the schools and the various government fundededucational institutions . The
government on an average allots 20% of its annual budget towards development of
educational institutes in the state.The ministry of education is the premiere authoritative
institute that is responsible for ensuring that students in Singapore receive world-class
education.
The school of science and technology,Singapore (SST) is a specialized independent
secondary school in Singapore established in 2010.The school uses Direct School
Admissions(DSA) exercise to obtain its cohorts with the application including a selection
camp and several academic test.
FOUNDING OF MODERN SINGAPORE
The British who were extending their dominion in India,and whose trade with
China in the second half of the 18th century was expanding,saw the need for a port of
call in this region to refit,revitalize and protect their merchant fleet as well as to forestall
any advance by the Dutch in the east Indies. In late 1818 Lord Hastings,governor
general of India, gave tacit approval to Sir Stamford Raffles,Lieutenant-Governor of
Bencoolen,to established a trading station at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula.
EDUCATION SYSTEM IN SINGAPORE
Apart from enjoying a status of famous shopping and tourism
destination,Singapore is also emerging as a place for pursuing higher education. The
pro-high technology policy of the government has invited billions of dollars of foreign
investment in the fields of biotechnology,IT and research.
GENERAL SCHOOLING SYSTEM is divided into three stages:
Primary,Secondary, and Post-secondary/junior college.
KINDERGARTGENS

Kindergartens is for children between the ages of 3 to 6. It usuall spans 3 years


when the kids learn to interacts and are prepared for the education at higher level.
PRIMARY EDUCATION
Primary school education begins at the age of 7 and it is a four-long stretched
schooling.
FOUNDATION STAGE
This is where the students undergo their first year of formal education . The students
are provided with a strong foundation in English mother-toungue and mathematics.
ORIENTATION STAGES
In this stage,Mathematics and Science are taught to an appropriate level to match
each pupils ability.
PRIMARY SCHOOL LEAVING EXAMINATIONS(PSLE)
PSLE is the final stage of primary education. This examination determines whether
the student is ready to take up secondary education or not.
SECONDARY EDUCATION
The results of the PLSE,determines the track or the stream of secondary
education.There are four streams to which the students are divided: Special
,Express,Normal( Academic), and Normal(Technical).
JUNIOR COLLEGES AT THE PRE-UNIVERSITY LEVEL
There are almost 18 junior colleges that are designed to provide the students with an
alternative to the three year programmed.
