ABOUT HOME INTERNET FILTER

Setting up the Residential Gateway and accessing to SingTel


Home Internet Filter portal
Ensure that your Residential Gateway (RG) is switched on at all times so there is no disruption to your
service activation. If you are setting up the new RG by yourself, follow the Quick Installation Guide
located in your RG box.
Check your Service Agreement letter for the date your Home Internet Filter is activated. Once the RG
setup is completed and Home Internet Filter service is activated, you will see the Internet Filter section
at the bottom left corner of your RG configuration tool.
All devices connecting to the Internet through your home Wi-Fi will now be automatically protected with
Home Internet Filter, on the default Teen setting. To access your Internet Filter portal, please go to
http://app.singnet.com.sg/homeinternetfilter.

GENERAL SETTINGS
Setting the Administrator password
If you need to edit or customise the profiles settings further, you can do so from the Internet Filter portal.
For first-time login, please visit http://app.singnet.com.sg/homeinternetfilter. Here, you will be prompted
to set your administrator password.

Create and confirm your Administrator password.


Click on the Submit button to save your password.

The following User Login page will be shown once you have successfully saved your newly
created password.

Enter your Administrator password to login and access the Internet Filter configuration portal.

Enabling Home Internet Filter and report of attempted access


By default, the Home Internet Filter and Reports of Attempted Access are enabled once the service is
activated. You can toggle between enabling and disabling these functions.
To enable Internet Filter service:
Under the Internet Filter header, click General Settings.
To enable Internet Filter on all devices connecting to the Internet through your RG, click
Enabled.
Click OK to confirm.
To enable logging of the report for attempted access to blocked website:
Go to General Setting and set the Report of Attempted Access status to Enabled.
Click OK to confirm.

APPLY PROFILES TO DEVICES


Pre-defined profiles
For convenience, we have created 3 pre-defined profiles:

Child Suitable for children below 12 years


Teen Suitable for children between 13 and 18 years
Adult No restrictions apply. Suitable for adults over 18 years

By default, the Teen profile is applied to all devices connecting to the Internet through your home Wi-Fi.
You can have up to 10 different profiles. Refer to the Create/Edit Profiles section for managing your
profiles.

Changing the default profile


You can change the default profile that is applied to all the devices connecting to your RG:

In the Default Profile panel on the Configuration page, select the preferred profile from the
drop down list.
Click OK to confirm.

Setting different profile for the devices


The Device Settings section shows you all the devices that are connected to your home Wi-Fi. By
default, the Teens profile is applied to all devices. To apply a different Internet Filter Profile to your
devices:

Set the Internet Filter Profile for the device you want changed.
Click OK to confirm.

Identifying devices connected to your RG


If you are unable to identify your devices by the Device Name, you can:
Turn off all your devices and then turn them on one by one.
Only the device that you have turned on and connected to your home gateway has a
green icon next to it.
The inactive devices have a red icon next to it.
Alternatively, compare the MAC address in the Details column with the MAC address shown on
your device. To find the MAC address, you can try to locate a sticker with the address on the
back of your device, or refer to the How to locate the Mac Address section.
Assign a unique (and easily recognisable) name to each of your devices by accessing your
devices settings menu. Refer to your devices user manual for information on how to change
your devices default name.

How to locate the MAC address


For iOS:
Go to Settings > General > About. The Wi-Fi Address field shows the MAC address of your Apple
iOS device.
Refer to your devices user manual for information on how to find the MAC address.
For Android:

Go to Settings > Wireless and Network > Context Menu


> Advanced.
The MAC address of your Android device will be displayed on the Advanced page.
Refer to your devices user manual for information on how to find the MAC address.

For Windows Mobile:


Go to Settings > About > More Info.
For Mac OS X:
Go to System Preferences > Network. Select the Ethernet or AirPort interface, and click Advanced.
In the window that appears, the Ethernet or AirPort tab shows the MAC address (labelled Ethernet
ID or AirPort ID).

CREATE/EDIT PROFILES
You can create or edit your profile settings. Go to Create/Edit Profiles in the left menu tab.

To add a new profile

Under the Internet Filter header, click Create/Edit Profiles.


On the Create/Edit Profiles - Management page, click Add a profile.
A profile with a default name given New profile_1 will be created and added to your profile list.

To rename an existing profile

Click the name of the profile you wish to edit.


Click Rename profile under the name of the profile.
Enter the new name in the field displayed.
Click Save to apply your changes.
Click OK when you are presented with pop up window

To delete a user-defined profile

Click the name of the profile you want to delete.


Click Delete profile.

Note: You should not delete any of the pre-set profiles (Child, Teen, and Adult).

Edit an existing profile


You can edit settings for each profile. Select the profile you wish to edit and you can choose to:
Customise Content Filter add/remove content categories to be blocked
Customise a schedule for internet access
Customise Filters Add/remove individual websites to be blocked
Customise Applications allow/block apps to be controlled.

To edit an existing profile


Under the Internet Filter header, click on the Create/Edit Profiles tab.
On the Credit/Edit Profiles - Management page, you will find a list of the profiles which have
been created. Click on the profile you want to edit.

Customise the content filter

In the Content Filter tab, select or unselect the content categories which you wish to block.
To reveal more details within each category, click on the orange triangle next to the checkbox.

Customise schedule for Internet access

On the Schedule tab, select the time periods during which you wish to allow the device to
access the Internet.
To change the time period, drag the two sliders on the Timeframe 1 bar to the left or
right. Select the days this time restriction applies to.
To add another time period, say for weekends, click Add schedule. Another timeframe
bar (Timeframe 2) appears below the first timeframe bar. Again, use the sliders to
change the time period.
To delete a time period, click Delete schedule. Note that the time period added last is
deleted first.
Click Save to apply your changes.

Customise filter
On the Customised Filter tab, enter any website address you wish to block or allow irrespective
of the content category the site falls into.
For example, in the Content Filter tab, you may have blocked all search engines, but
you can allow access to a specific websites say www.google.com by entering the URL
of the website in the Add website field.
Select the Allowed option and subsequently clicks on the Add button.
Similarly, if you have allowed access to the Entertainment category in the Content Filter
tab, and wish to block www.mtv.com, you can add it to the Blocked list.
Click Save to apply your changes.

Customise applications
The Home Internet Filter service, by default, configured to block all communications initiated
from outside. This function may affect how some applications operate: online games,
communication tools (email, chat, video conferencing, etc.), Internet applications, and server
applications (FTP, SMTP, etc.).
To allow some of such applications:
On the Application tab, select the applications you need from the drop-down lists.
Select Allowed or Blocked.
Click Add to add them to the respective lists.
Click Save to apply your changes.

If you could not find your application in the Application dropdown list, you can define your own
application into the User Defined list by following below steps:
1. Click on the Create/Delete a New Application Button, you will be redirected to
Create/Delete New Application Page

2. You can create a new application by specifying a name, a protocol (tcp, udp or tcp/udp), and
a port number. You can have various port numbers, example: 80,150; or port range 80:90
(80,81,82,...,90); or 80,90:100.

3. Click the Add button under Option to confirm to add the New Application. You can add
more than one application by fill up the Name, Protocol and Port number again. When you
completed, click on the Close button.

4. You may now select the Application from the User Defined drop down list.

VIEW ACTIVITY LOGS


Viewing activity logs
You can see records of attempts to access blocked websites.

To view these logs, click View Activity Logs on the left hand side panel.

Accessing blocked websites


When the user of the device attempts to access a web site that is blocked (content control) or access the
Internet during a time that is not allowed (time control), they will be blocked and the request will be
logged down in the Activity Log.

This error pop-up page will tell you why access has been blocked for that particular website.

Requesting access to blocked websites


The user of the device may request for temporary internet access from the Administrator.

Under the pop-up error message, click on the Request for Access button.
Simply click OK on the subsequent window which pops up.

The request will be sent to the Administrator. Once request has been approved, temporary internet
access to all websites will be granted for a specific duration.

Granting access to blocked websites


Important Note: Only the Administrator has the right to grant temporary internet access to various
devices. Do take note that when a temporary internet access has been granted, you are allowing that
specific device to access all websites, irrespective of the Internet Filter profile settings applicable to that
device, for a specific period of time.
To grant a request for temporary internet access:

Simply login at the Internet Filter service portal with your Administrator password.
Under the Internet Filter header, click Apply Profile to Devices. A red exclamation mark will
show up when the device has sent a request for temporary internet access.
To view more information with regards to the request, simply click on the red exclamation mark.

To approve the request, set the duration for which you want to grant full web access in the
Unlock internet access panel, and click Allow access.
To reject the request, click Denied access.

REMOTE ACCESS
Accessing Home Internet Filter through exPress portal
You can remotely access your Home Internet Filter from your smartphone, laptop or tablet when youre
away from home.
For easy access, simply save or bookmark
https://<singnetID>.singnethome.com/homeinternetfilter on your devices. Example:
https://macytan.singnethome.com/homeinternetfilter

Alternatively, you may visit and login to express.singtel.com and click on the Internet Filter
widget to access the Home Internet Filter portal.

Accessing Internet Filter through a smartphone


You can also access the Internet Filter feature through a smartphone.
Open the Internet browser and enter the following web address in its address bar:
https://<singnetuserID>.singnethome.com/homeinternetfilter
(Example: https://macytan.singnethome.com/homeinternetfilter)

On the Internet Filter page that appears, enter your Administrator password and tap Login.
You see a list of all the devices that are connected to your home Wi-Fi.

To edit the access rights of any device

Select the device by tapping its name.


Change its settings using the options available on the Time Control and Content Control tabs.

To allow temporary access requests via mobile device

On the Select Device page, tap the name of the device that has requested for access to a
blocked website (indicated by a red exclamation next to its name).
On the Time Control tab, enter the duration for which you want to grant full web access, and tap
Allow.
Tap OK upon seeing a confirmation window.

TROUBLESHOOTING HOME INTERNET FILTER


If you are experiencing difficulty with the Home Internet Filter service, kindly perform the following steps
before contacting SingTels Customer Helpdesk at 1688.

If you are unable to access an allowed website after enabling Home Internet Filter.
Your configuration may be incorrect. Verify your Internet Filter profile settings on the
Profile Management page (Internet Filter > Create/Edit Profiles).
If the problem still persists, please call SingTels Technical Support at 1688 for advice.

If you are unable to remote access the Home Internet Filter service portal whilst outside the
home.
When home, ensure that your home gateway is switched on.
Connect your laptop or desktop to the gateway using an Ethernet cable, visit
app.singnet.com.sg.
Go to Administration > Troubleshooting > Box Diagnostics. Check that the WAN
interface has an IP address and Dynamic DNS is enabled.
If the problem still persists, please call SingTels Technical Support at 1688 for advice.
