SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Salem Red Sox roll into Pfitzner Stadium for a three-game series against the Potomac Nationals. Salem and
Potomac have squared off 12 times this season, splitting the matchups evenly overall, at Salem, and at Potomac. Both teams currently sit in a
tie for first place in their respective divisions. The Nationals possess a magic number of nine to clinch a spot in the Mills Cup Playoffs while the
Red Sox are currently in a dead heat with Myrtle Beach to host game one of the South Division Championship Series.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Salem sends Daniel McGrath to the mound in the series opener after he was named the Carolina League Pitcher
of the Week on Monday. In his lone start, McGrath tied a career-high with eight innings pitched and allowed only run on one hit, which was a
leadoff triple in the first. He faced the minimum after the leadoff triple, allowing two walks, but converting two double plays. It was the Australians
second start of eight innings this year, also doing so against Potomac in a loss on July 27. He has faced the Nationals twice this season, going
0-2 with a 3.86 ERA. Hes allowed seven runs (six earned) over 14 innings in two starts against the P-Nats.
REVISIONIST HISTORY: Salem has already established a Red Sox-era record for most wins in a season (78), surpassing the 76 wins posted
by the 2013 Carolina League champions. With 13 games to play including tonights contest, the Red Sox would have to go 9-4 to tie the all-time
franchise record of 87 victories, set by the 1974 Rebels. The team has also already set new Red Sox-era records in road wins (36), first half wins
(43), triples (57), and stolen bases (221). The four steals on Sunday established a new franchise record as well with 221 steals.
WERE GOING STREAKING!: Salem has won 10 games in a row, a new Red Sox-era record for longest winning streak, and the longest in
franchise history since the 2007 Avalanche won 12 consecutive contests. In the stretch, Salem has outscored its opponents 55-28, scoring at
least three runs in every game and holding the opponent to two runs or less six times, including five straight games. Additionally, the Sox have
won 10 straight games at LewisGale Field, surpassing a Red Sox-era record set from April 25-May 8, 2012 (seven games). It is the first home
winning streak of 10 games or more for Salem since a franchise record 11-game surge for the Salem Avalanche from May 26-June 15, 2000.
Salem has also established a Red Sox record for most consecutive road wins this season with nine in a row in early April.
DEVERS DESTROYS: Since the start of July, Rafael Devers has been locked in at the plate, smacking more extra-base hits than any Carolina
League player. The 19-year-old prospect has swatted 32 extra-base hits in 47 games played, including 19 doubles, six triples and seven home
runs, en route to producing a .340/.384/.600 batting line. In all of Minor League Baseball, Devers 120 total bases pace all hitters by a margin
of four (two tied, 116). His .330 average in the second half is sixth-best in the Carolina League.
EXCELLING CLOSE & LATE: When leading after seven innings this year, the Red Sox are an impressive 60-1 (.984). The second-best record
in the circuit in that situation belongs to Potomac at 57-2 (.966). Salem is one of seven full-season teams in Minor League Baseball with one loss
or fewer when leading at the conclusion of seven innings. Trenton (AA, NYY) have the best winning percentage of the spectacular seven with
their .986 (71-1) clip. Salem has also amassed a 31-11 (.738) record in one-run games, the only team in MiLB with 30 one-run wins this season.
The next-best one-run team in MiLB is Clearwater (High-A, PHI) who is 23-10 (.697), although Jackson (AA, SEA) has 28 one-run victories.
NOW THIS IS A PENNANT RACE: The Red Sox enter today tied with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans atop the Second Half South Division
standings. Myrtle Beachs magic number to clinch a playoff spot is four, but home field advantage in game one is still up for grabs. Salem is a
league-best 16-4 in August, and has only been able to gain 0.5 games on Myrtle Beach, who has posted a 15-4 record.
