1.

Engineering has always been my ambition and it all started from my

father who functioned as a junior civil engineer at Land
development bank. With time, my interests narrowed down to
energy and automobiles, which made mechanical engineering my
natural choice in undergraduate. Thermodynamics was my field of
interest and my projects were also in energy sectors. I then joined
Avtec ltd as Assistant manager in SCM department and my everyday
routine was a mix of both technical and commercial discussions. I
was managing the portfolio of 20 suppliers for regular procurement
and was also handling a dozen of new potential vendors for the new
business requirements. I was a quick learner and was able to handle
two diverse portfolios of procurement and part sourcing under two
different departments simultaneously. Besides the routine, I have
also presided 11 value engineering ideas which accounted for a total
savings of INR 4.1 Crores/ annum. Variability being the key driver in
any SCM department, helped me hone my decision-making skills
and increase my appetite for ambiguous situations. I believe with
the above mentioned skills and background, I will be a suitable
candidate with sufficient exposure in both the fields to take on this
prestigious Solar project.
2. First time in my two years of service as Assistant manager, the
commodity prices were coming down and we were facing
tremendous pressure from customers for price reduction. I was
made in charge and after detailed study, I realized this is because of
our fixed cost agreements with vendors. On closer study, this
system has acted in advantage to us till date, with all costs fixed 1012 years back. But with the change in scenario, I convinced my
team to try and introduce floating price agreements with reference
to 6 months commodity price average. The vendors agreed after
different rounds of negotiation with a change cap of 3% up and
down. This after implementation helped us reduce our procurement
prices significantly and helped us save a total of 4.1 Lakhs/ annum.
3. I have developed myself as a strong leader with excellent people
skills over time. I have been through a variety of such situations
which have taught me various lessons about being a leader. Let me
describe one such event here. During my College days, we decide to
participate in an aero modelling competition as a team of 5. I was in
charge of the design and with internet as our sole source of
information, we managed to get our model flying. But on the day of
competition our model covered only a meagre 50 meters against
150-200 meters by other competitors. We were completely
shattered and returned back to our homes. But I took the model
back, refined it and with other two friends got it tested by 4AM the
same day. We participated in Kriya, An International competition the
next day and to everyones surprise our model covered a staggering
230 meters and won us the Second prize amongst 100 other entries.
I realized the importance of hard work and perseverance that day

and also I learned that the only way to be a successful leader is to

earn your teammates respect. And to do that, you should put in the
highest amount of effort compared to every other.
I was a little risk averse in the beginning, trying to play by safe
standards all the time. But my stint in Avtec taught me it is
necessary to try something new occasionally and keep pushing
yourself to your limits to achieve something extraordinary.
4. My Short term goal would be to diversify myself by working across
different sectors and roles to increase my skillset and knowledge.
Also I want to push myself at various non comfort zones to improve
on my adaptability and flexibility.
Though I was not able to contribute much to the industry till date,
Service industry had always been my end goal. But I am sure,
fulfilling my short term goals, I would become a much learned
person and will be about to bring some prominent changes in the
industry for the betterment of people and the nation.
5. It was only a week since we joined IIM B and we had the annual
freshers cultural event fast approaching in 4 days. There were 6
verticals and POCs for each vertical were elected by vertical wise
voting. Though I had a very little experience, I just wanted to push
myself and try something new. So I stood for Infrastructure vertical
elections and as a part of it, I had to deliver a perfect one-minute
pitch with almost zero preparation. I had to convince everyone
present there and emerge among the top 2 positions among 25
other contenders. While the big college names and extraordinary
profiles of other contenders scared me a bit in the beginning, I
decided to differentiate myself and to keep my pitch as unique as
possible. So I structured my pitch starting with relevant work
experience, positive reflections on being a part of this team, fun
activities and experiences to explore and concluded explaining the
key factors of being a successful leader to establish my credibility. It
was a successful pitch and I finally won the election with almost
95% supporters. That really stays very close to my heart where I
won against all odds.
6. During my tenure as Assistant Manager at Avtec, there were a lot of
payment problems with the suppliers. It was because of the labour
strike during the year 2009-10, that there were no proper records
maintained. The entire plant was run by staffs and most of the book
keeping had been skipped. Because of this, there were a of pending
payments to the suppliers. All the people who have handled it
before didnt do much about it. So when I came to know about this, I
analysed the track records, matched them with any details available
and got them approved by my CFO, to clear them on priority.
7. It was during the college when we participated in an event called
contraption. It was a complicated activity system with different

mechanical instruments in which the start of one activity is

triggered by the end of another. So we were a team of 6 and worked
in pairs on three different modules. Our part was done and we were
happy about it. But on the day of performance, we realized that the
second part was completely out of sink and we lost. It was when I
realized the performance of a team is only as good as its weakest
link. We then sat together rectified it and won the second time.
8. I was out on a Sunday evening just for a walk and I saw an old man
sitting under a tree. He seemed to be totally out of breath, so I
reached out to him and offered him something to drink. He asked for
water and after that, he asked me if I could walk with him till his
daughters house. But on arriving there, we found she was out
somewhere and wont be back until 2 hours. So I offered him to stay
at my home till she arrived but he refused and wanted to return
back to his home in bus. But he was so tired, and therefore I took an
auto, went along and dropped him at his place. Although I will not
be able to do this every time, I felt extremely happy and satisfied.
9. Painting and sketching were always the best of my hobbies and
helped me kindle my creativity and to express myself at best. By
fact, it has also helped me differentiate myself and to stand apart. I
can effectively look at any given problem from a creative aspect and
also address it through an analytical or logical approach.
