WEDNESDAY WEEKLY NO.

1
Wednesday, August 31, 2016
Dear Families,

Principals Note

We had a fantastic third week of school at Melrose

last week. Thank you to all the families who
ensured their children arrived on time! Our
scholars are doing a wonderful job learning the
routines and procedures at school, which are
extremely important in making sure we are
maximizing our instructional time throughout the
day.
We have placed a mailbox in our University
Hall/cafeteria for your feedback. We would love to
hear from you.
On Thursday, September 8th we will host our first
School Advisory Council meeting at 5:00 p.m. We
will elect parents to serve on the SAC board.
Following the meeting we will have Open House at
5:30 p.m. -6:30 p.m.
Supporting Your Scholar
Here are ways you can support your scholar at
home:
Encourage your child to read. Helping your
child become a reader is the single most
important thing that you can do to help the
child to succeed in school-and in life. The
importance of reading simply can't be
overstated. Reading helps children in all school
subjects.

We encourage you to add the following to

what you are already doing with your
child daily:
o Read to him/her
o Listen to him/her read to you
o Ask questions about what was just read
o Write down the words he/she had
trouble with
o Look the word up in the dictionary,
Arrival & Dismissal Reminders

scholars receive a full day of teaching and
learning, we need you to ensure your child is

learning. Our scholars day starts with a
healthy breakfast at 7:30-7:45 and Morning
Meeting at 8:05. Our dismissal starts at 3:30
