"StrangeMan"whichwasthefirstsinglereleased,almostmadethealbum'sfinalcutbutwasleftoffinfavorof
"GoodbyeHooray".Oneofthesongs,"InLove,Dying"isaneightminuterockercapturedinasinglestudiotake
thatoccupiesbothsidesofasingle,asKlinghoffertoldRollingStonefromarecenttourstopinBerne,
Switzerland.WeregoingtohavetodothatoldtrickwhereitfadesoutandfadesbackinontheBside.Another
cut,VictorianMachinerysoundslikeabigthreeheadedmonsterplayingdrums,Klinghoffersaid,addingthat
thebandcapturedabsolutemagicwithNeverIsaLongTime,apoptasticnumberfeaturingGregKurstinon
piano.Itsreallyoneofthosecaseswheretheyhadtoomanygoodsongstofitonanalbum.Theyhavethis
cohesivethinginthestudiowhentheygetthattake,thatsthetakethattheykeep.
Itsalwaysdifficult,butweuseademocraticprocessandthesongswiththemostvotesareusuallythebackbone
ofthealbum,producerRickRubinwroteinanemail.Icanjustsayasisalwaysthecase,someofmypersonal
favoritesdontmakethecut.Imsureeveryoneinthebandcantellyouthesame.
Klinghoffersaidthattheyrecorded48songsduringthealbum'ssessionsandsomecouldeventuallyseethelightof
day.Itspossible,Klinghoffersaid.Wejusthadsomuchmaterialbackthenthatcertainthingsjuststraightup
didntgetenoughattention.TheresacouplethatwillprobablyjustremaininouriPods.
Inaninterview,Klinghoffersaidthatpostsessionworkwasdonetothebsidesmeaningthatthebandspenttime
in2012and2013workingonsomeofsongs.[6]

largerpieceofartwork.Theartworkistitled"Iris"andfeaturedinBrookes'new"MeditationsonSymmetry"series
currentlyondisplayinMalibu,California.[7]Brookes'welldocumentedbackgroundinmicrobiology,surfculture
andfolkartcombineinexplosiveprismsofraucouscolor,boldimageryandtimelessmotifs.Hisworkhas
appearedincountlessgroupshows,artfairs,andmagazinessuchasGQ,ModernPainters,Juxtapoz,Beautiful
DecayandDazed&Confused.[8]However,theartworkwassightlymodifiedforthesinglesrelease,byrotatingthe
image45degrees.
