I helped form a Writing Across the Curriculum initiative by proposing, training, and
helping to promote the Writing Fellows program at the Universities at Shady Grove.
I also conducted writing consultations with upper-level undergraduate and graduate
students from a wide range of academic disciplines and cultural backgrounds; administered academic coaching for struggling students; presented academic improvement
workshops; and help promote an online space for the Center.

This fellowship is awarded for summer work in support of a United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Resources Conservation Services
(NRCS) grant (431551). Working under co-PI Marybeth Shea, I apply rhetorical and cognitive linguistic theories for consultation with interdisciplinary teams
of scientists working on composing a science policy advisory document. Through
the motivated conceptual structure of rhetorical stasis theory, I demonstrate to
the USDA CIG team how cooperative and organized question-asking practices
calm complex interdisciplinary scientific disputation in order to propel productive science policy work.

College Park, for international travel to present at two conferences in Europe
the International Cognitive Linguistics Conference and the Conference of the
International Society for the History of Rhetoricin the Summer of 2015.
Center for Literary and Comparative Studies 2014, University of Maryland
This interdisciplinary grant established pedagogical workshops and teachertraining on campus for those interested in implementing multimodal activities into their classrooms. The grant recipients come from Rhetoric, Women
and Gender Studies (Melissa Grant and Michele Prince), and American Studies (Jara Moesch). For the first stage of the grant, we worked closely with
Dr. Mary Helen Washington to implement multimodal activities in her undergraduate class Literature and Film of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. The
second stage of the grant addressed syllabus-writing and multimodal methodology generally, and the third stage workshops activity development exercises
for creating and assessing critical multimodal projects.
