Dear Ms/Mrs. Wallace,

My name is Kate Kovacs; I will have the pleasure of joining you in your grade six classroom at
G.S. Lakie Middle School. I am very much looking forward to working within your classroom
community, and excited to continue to develop essential teaching skills under your guidance. I
am currently a fourth year student at the University of Lethbridge completing my B.A/B.Ed, with
most of my studies being focused within English, History, and Eastern Religious Studies. I
believe this wide range of courses had allowed me to develop a fuller understanding as to how
the Humanities interact on not only an educational, but a daily level.
I was lucky to experience my introductory practicum in a grade six classroom at
Glamorgan School in Calgary. This experience gave me a lot of opportunity to make
connections between theory and the classroom. I spent a lot of time working with a really great
group of students and was amazed by their creativity, energy and classroom dynamics. Ive had
lots of experience babysitting children of all ages and I was also able to shadow a grade four
class at St. Jerome School in Calgary for a brief period. These opportunities have broadened
my understandings of student-teacher relationships and helped me expand my teaching
philosophies. Although my formal experience working with students does not extend much
beyond this, Ive always had a high interest in the passions and capabilities of children. I am so
excited to be engaged in the process of helping students discover about themselves and what
kind of individuals and learners they hope to be.
On a personal note, I have always had a passion reading and exploring literature. I also
enjoy running, working out, and the spending time in the outdoors. I spent a lot of my childhood
playing soccer which really introduced me to the tenets of communication and teamwork. I have

a high interest in movies and music (and in fact I took a class last year called The History of
Rock and Roll) and I enjoy volunteering my time through various organizations, particularly
Feed the Hungry, Five Days for the Homeless, and with Canadian Blood Services.
I hope this gives you a brief look into who I am and what I can bring to your classroom
environment. I look forward to bringing my life experience, passion, energy, hard work and
empathy to my interactions with your students. I am very excited to continue learning how to
become a successful and well-rounded teacher and I hope I am able to make a positive
contribution to the lives of your students. I promise to heartily welcome any suggestions or
direction you have for me.

Thank you for welcoming me into your classroom,

Kate Kovacs
