Jesus, Assyria and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil

In the table below, we compare Jesus, Assyria and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and
Evil. The comparison is based on the following Scriptures: Genesis 2-3 , Isaiah 10, Isaiah 53,
Ezekiel 31, Zechariah 9:9 and the Book of Revelation. The comparison is not exhaustive.
Jesus

Assyria

A1

like a young plant

Assyria was a cedar in

Lebanon,
with beautiful branches
and forest shade,
and of towering height,
its top among the
clouds.

A2

like a root out of dry

ground

The waters nourished it;

the deep made it grow
tall,
making its rivers flow
around the place of its
planting,
sending forth its streams
to all the trees of the
field.

A3

"he had no form or

majesty that we should
look at him"

The cedars in the garden

of God could not rival it
"under its shadow lived all
great nations"
"It was beautiful in its
greatness,
in the length of its
branches;
for its roots went down
to abundant waters."

A4

"no beauty that we should

desire him"
He was despised and
rejected by men;
a man of sorrows, and
acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom
men hide their faces
he was despised, and
we esteemed him not.

no tree in the garden of

God
was its equal in
beauty
I made it beautiful
in the mass of its
branches,
and all the trees of Eden
envied it,
that were in the garden
of God.

The Tree of the Knowledge

of Good and Evil

"So when the woman saw that

the tree was good for food, and
that it was a delight to the eyes,
and that the tree was to be
desired to make one wise, she
took of its fruit and ate, and she
also gave some to her husband
who was with her, and he ate."

A7

Jesus is the humble king.

Jesus is the Holy and
Righteous One.
Rejoice greatly, O
daughter of Zion! Shout
aloud, O daughter of
Jerusalem! Behold, your
king is coming to you;
righteous and having
salvation is he, humble
and mounted on a
donkey, on a colt, the foal
of a donkey.

from his mouth comes a

sharp two-edged sword

The following

Assyria is wicked.
Therefore thus says the
Lord Yahweh: Because it
towered high and set its
top among the clouds,
and its heart was proud of
its height, I will give it into
the hand of a mighty one
of the nations. He shall
surely deal with it as its
wickedness deserves. I
have cast it out."
Under the reign of King
Sennacherib (704 - 681),
Nineveh was the capital of
the Assyrian Empire.
Ah, Assyria, the rod of
my anger; the staff in
their hands is my fury!
