Linking words (contrast)

In the FCE Use of English paper, you are often tested on the differences
between linking words, especially in the multiple-choice cloze (Part 1). Its
also useful to know the differences for the writing paper.
All of the linking words used here show a (surprising) contrast between
two ideas, but they are used in different ways. A clause is a group of
words that includes a subject and a verb, and forms a sentence or part of
a sentence (www.oald8.com)

same.
