Signature of the Head of the Dept./Institution:

Preamble:

The importance of Power Electronics (PE) has been increased

over the years because of their smooth control and conversion
of power. PE technologies have been widely used in renewable energy systems, like hydro power, municipal solid wastes,
biomass, geothermal, solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, wind
power, tidal and wave. Although many of these resources are
free, the cost of Power Electronics and energy conversion
efciency are the major concern to the system planners. PE
plays a major role in extracting energy from renewable
sources and interconnects to utility gird.
This course facilitates researchers, practicing professionals,
and research students to understand and apply the principles of
power electronic converters for various forms of non-conventional sources. Various theoretical sessions and laboratory-based experiments/demonstrations are designed, not only
by the academia, but also the professionals from R&D organizations and industries to meet objective. The lectures
delivered by the experts from Centre for Development of
Advancement Computing (CDAC) are expected to open
new ideas for control of power electronic converters. This
course also offers practical implementation of Digital Signal
Processor (DSP).

About National Mission on Power Electronics

Technology (NaMPET):

National Mission on Power Electronics Technology-NaMPET

is a national mission programme launched by the Department
of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) under
Ministry of Communications & Information Technology
(MCIT), Govt.of India, with a vision to provide the country
with the capability to become a dominant player in Power
Electronics Technology. Through this National level R&D
Programme, Research, Development, Deployment and
Commercialization of Power Electronics Technology is
envisaged by enhancing the indigenous R&D expertise and
infrastructure in the country with active participation from
academic institutions and industries. Centre for Development
of Advanced Computing, CDAC, Thiruvananthapuram,
a premier R&D organization under DeitY, is the Nodal
Centre coordinating the activities of NaMPET.
The rst phase of the programme was successfully
completed in 2010 and the activities under NaMPET Phase I
focused on R&D, infrastructure and awareness creation.
Considering the impact, createdby the activities under the
rst phase of NaMPET, DeitY initiated the second phase of

NaMPET (NaMPET Phase-II) in January 2012 for ve years

aiming further strengthening of power electronics technology
base in the country.

About Centre for Development of Advancement

Computing (CDAC):

CDAC undertakes application oriented research, design and

development in electronics, so as to generate state-of-theart
producible, marketable, eld maintainable products and
systems. The Power Electronics group at CDAC
Thiruvananthapuram has wide experience of developing
successful power electronics products/systems, and a very
good industry interaction by way of transfer of technology,
eld implementation etc. It has very close association with
reputed academic institutions like IISc, IITs, NITs etc.
CDAC has contributed signicantly to the growth of industry
through indigenous development of commercially viable
products andsystems, foreign technology absorption,
consultancy, training and turnkey implementation of contract
projects.

About the Institute:

The National Institute of Technology Goa (NIT Goa) is a

premier technical Institute of the region. NIT Goa was
established in the year 2010 by an act of parliament (NIT act
2007) and it is declared as Institute of National Importance.
