FLUIDICS VIEW
All the fluidics parts are on the right side of the instrument and consist of only three modules :
- Sampling module :
o Rocker (patent pending) : Manages the Sample Needle positioning.
- Syringe module (patent pending) consists of one block :
o Reagent syringes (Diluent, lyse), sampling and air syringes.
o Liquid valve manifold assembly and tubing.
- Counting module :
o WBC and RBC counting chambers and hemoglobin measurement.
o Liquid valve manifold assembly and tubing.

2. FLUIDICS
2.4.
The hydraulic section of the D3 is very simple and made up of only three modules :
- Sampling module.
- Counting module.
- Syringes module.
The modules are connected together by semi rigid tubing.
2.4.1.
Sampling module
This module (patented) is responsible for aspirating the sample and performing the WBC and RBC/Plt
dilutions.
It is assembled with a rocker assembly which moves the sample needle from the Aspiration position into the
diluting position for performing the WBC/Hgb and RBC/PLT dilutions.
A very reliable system of rack-gear moves the rocker.
The cleaning system of the sampling needle can be removed without tools (see section 9 in the user manual).
The needle o-ring can be removed without tools (see section 9 in the user manual).
2.4.2.
This module is responsible for counting the WBC and RBC/Plt and measuring the HGB.
It is made with a manifold which contains the reagent valves and the counting bath block including the
apertures.
The counting bath block assembly and apertures can be removed without tools (see section 9 in the user
manual).

ELECTRONICS
3.1.
INTRODUCTION
- Ensure correct protection is used when replacing the main board or preamplifier board, as
these are sensitive to electro static discharge (ESD).
- Before operating check the earth connection and use the antistatic bag supply with the
board. Please contact your authorized Drew distributor for more information.
- Be careful with the edges of the frame after having removed the covers.
3.2.
3.2.1.
The Main board is located between the hydraulic compartment and the reagent tray.
The board, driven by a 32-bit processor, controls the following modules:
- Sample needle, rocker, syringe block motors.
- Display and keyboard.
- External communications (RS232, Ethernet, ).
- Printer.
- Measurement (Counting, hemoglobin measurement).
- Data processing.
- External barcode reader.

- The D3 has been certified with the power supply provided. The use of another external
power supply box may affect performance and will invalidate the Warranty. Please contact
Drew Scientific or authorized Drew Distributor.

4. FLAGS
4.
FLAGS
D3 manages different Flags and Alarms. These Flags allow the user to be alerted if there is a situation which
can affect the quality of results. All of these Flags appear to the right of the result.
In presence of one or more Flags, it is recommended to check the result by manual methods
such as a blood smear.
NOTE : Most of these Flags can be modified by the user (see section 3 of the Users Manual).

FUNCTIONAL ALARMS
INS_T = Means that the working temperature is lower than 17C or higher than 33C and the result could
be affected.
INS_P = Means that the counting vacuum is out of range. If the flag appears at each cycle, please contact
your local representative.
W-CL or R-CL = Means that the difference between the Count 1 raw data Count 2 raw data exceeds
expectations which indicate a disruption in the sample flow.
