We, as a wrestling community, better remember it is more
than one individual that makes a winner. - DAN GABLE

jake sueflohn

Every day during his career at Nebraska, Jake Sueflohn was among wrestlers
in the pursuit of gold.
In college I had the opportunity to train with RTC wrestlers like [2012
Olympic gold medalist, two-time Olympian] Jordan Burroughs, [2015 World
Championships 70 kg bronze medalist] James Green and [Fresno State
assistant coach, 2015 Pan American Championships 65 kg champion] Jason
Chamberlain.
These guys are some of the best wrestlers in the world and they really
helped me grow as a wrestler, Sueflohn said. They were competing in the
international circuit which is the highest level of wrestling, so being able
to workout with these guys daily was very beneficial on and off the mat.
They taught us techniques and mentored us on how to be successful. They
showed us what it took to be the best, all while chasing their dreams and
continuing their career.
It paid off. Sueflohn was a four-time NCAA qualifier and two-time Big Ten
Championships finalist.
Now at Purdue as the volunteer assistnat coach, the role for Sueflohn has
changed. Hes taking his experience with RTC wrestlers and bringing it into
the Purdue wrestling room with the goal of building the Boilermaker RTC
into what he knows it can be.
With such a highly touted class
last year and the talent already
in the wrestling room, Im really
looking forward to working with
this group and accomplishing
big things, he said. I also think
the hiring of Kendric shows that
we are making waves. People
are starting to take notice of
what is going on at Purdue.

Athletes training at the Olympic level need tremendous support for tournament
expenses, such as entry fees, transportation and lodging. The Boilermaker RTC
also provides a path for Purdues current wrestlers to continue competing after
college and gain invaluable coaching experience through the training center.

chad welch, 2015 Midlands Champion
Chad Welch became Purdue's FIRST Midlands Championships titlist since
Dave Gibson in 1963, and the programs second-ever Midlands champ.
Chad Welch had the ultimate victory at 165 pounds, pinning his opponent in
3:54 ... he outscored his competition 47-8 in five matches, including points
scored in his two pins, on his way to the championship.
Im so excited right now! I went out like any other match with
tunnel vision on what I had to do. Now after Ive had time to let it
sink in, its really cool that I got to win like that in front of all of my
family and friends. - CHAD WELCH

In two seasons, Purdue has sent 11 wrestlers to the NCAA

Championships ... EIGHT Boilermakers qualified in 2015 to match a program high ... it was
only the third time in program history eight advanced (1993, 2003) and it was the MOST
QUALIFIERS SINCE 2010.
Chad Welch, one of three qualifiers in 2016, was the first 165-pounder in program history to
earn a seed at the NCAA Championships.
In 2015, Tony Ersland was one of nine head coaches that were in their first season as a Division
I head coach and one of 13 coaches that were in their first year at the helm of their respective
program ... his eight NCAA qualifiers were the most among both groups ... he was also the only
coach among both groups to have his team in the final USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll.
