Year 9/10

Semester Outline

Semester

201

A P unit indicates your child has been provided with a personalised learning program that does not align
exactly with the year level content prescribed in the Australian Curriculum.
Description
Metal work will be encompassing sheet metal, fitting skills, Metal Lathe and some welding skills.
This unit assumes some knowledge of metal work from Years 7/8 though not mandatory.
Students will be exposed to a series of hand tool and techniques along with the safe use of
machine tools appropriate to the jobs at hand.
Assessment will be related to the following learning outcomes:

Investigate and make judgments on how the characteristics and properties of materials,
systems, components, tools and equipment can be combined to create designed solutions
Work flexibly to effectively and safely to select, justify and use appropriate technologies and
processes to make designed solutions
Develop project plans to plan and manage projects individually and collaboratively taking
into consideration time, cost, risk and production processes

Continual Modified Assessment

Students knowledge, understanding and skills will be continually assessed and demonstrated through a
range of modified tasks including those listed below as well as regularly reflected on throughout the
semester in their digital portfolios. Please note that in line with our commitment to personalising learning,
not all students will complete exactly the same tasks.

Content for this P unit has been modified from the following Australian Curriculum Acheivement Standards
By the end of Year 10, students explain how people working in design and technologies occupations consider
factors that impact on design decisions and the technologies used to produce products, services and
environments. They identify the changes necessary to designed solutions to realise preferred futures they have
described. When producing designed solutions for identified needs or opportunities, students evaluate the
features of technologies and their appropriateness for purpose for one or more of the technologies contexts.
Students create designed solutions for one or more of the technologies contexts based on a critical evaluation of
needs or opportunities. They establish detailed criteria for success, including sustainability considerations, and
use these to evaluate their ideas and designed solutions and processes. They create and connect design ideas
and processes of increasing complexity and justify decisions. Students communicate and document projects,
including marketing for a range of audiences. They independently and collaboratively apply sequenced production
and management plans when producing designed solutions, making adjustments to plans when necessary.
They select and use appropriate technologies skilfully and safely to produce high-quality designed solutions
suitable for the intended purpose.

If students are absent from class it is their responsibility to catch up on any missed work. Any requests for
submitting work late, extensions to due dates or alternative assessments need to be negotiated with the
teacher well in advance of the stated due dates. More detail on assessment timelines may be viewed by
obtaining the parent code for Schoology.
