One of Asias leading orchestras, the SSO provides artistic inspiration through its recordings with BIS, international tours,
outreach and education, chamber music, and a 30-programme subscription series. Under the baton of Music Director Lan
the SSO currently performs at the world-renowned Esplanade Concert Hall and at its long term home, the Victoria Concer
The SSO invites applications from outstanding musicians for the following position(s):
1. PRINCIPAL BASSOON
Salary and benets
benets:
- Salary will be commensurate with experience and abilities. Annual remuneration starting from SGD 84,000 to SGD 99,96
(approx. USD 61,787 to USD 73,531) per annum.
- Low personal income tax between 11.5% and 15% for a tax resident.
- 52 paid weeks a year, including 6 weeks of paid annual leave in addition to statutory holidays and other leave benets.
- Medical, dental, work injury compensation, travel insurance and instrument insurance benets.
- If you are not a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident, you will be eligible for Contract Gratuity Scheme (a
additional SGD 24,000), in place of the CPF (Central Provident Fund, a social security saving plan), when you complete
successfully every 2 years of service.

Established in 1980, the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) is the premier youth orchestra in Singapore dedicate
the training and development of young orchestra musicians in Singapore. The SNYO is recognised by the Ministry of Educ
as a National Project of Excellence and our members studying in mainstream secondary schools have their participation in
orchestra recognised in lieu of a school-based Co-Curricular Activity.
The SNYO is made up of over 180 talented young musicians representing more than 60 schools across Singapore. The SNY
Programme is structured to cater to a wide range of ages and skill levels. In addition to the two performing groups, the Y
Sinfonia and Youth Orchestra, the Orchestra boasts of a unique talent development programme where selected membe
receive subsidised individual private lessons from professional musicians.
Since April 2015, the SNYO started a new chapter in its musical journey with the transfer of the management and operati
from Ministry of Education to the Singapore Symphonia Company Limited (SSCL), parent company of the Singapore Symp
Orchestra. The impetus behind this change is to provide high quality leadership and artistic development for local musica
to excel at the national level by drawing on the knowledge and expertise of Singapore's premier professional orchestra.

1. PRINCIPAL CONDUCTOR
The Principal Conductor (PC) is expected to provide overall artistic leadership for the SNYO in addition to inspiring and
motivating our youth musicians towards artistic excellence. The PC shall be responsible for the performing standards and
performance of SNYO. Key to this objective is the individuals ability to apply pedagogical approaches toward structuring
curriculum to develop and strengthen ensemble skills of the Youth Orchestra musicians.
In addition to developing the SNYO programme, the PC will be responsible for the Youth Orchestras concert season of a
minimum of three public concerts per year. As a member of the SNYO team, the PC will be expected to work with the SN
management team on rehearsal schedule, auditions, members assessments, members attendance and disciplinary matte
Working alongside members of the SNYO administration, the PC is responsible to the CEO, SSCL for leading the effective
planning and delivery of SNYOs rehearsal and performance schedule.
REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES
ATTRIBUTES:
- Proven ability as an orchestral conductor and trainer with signicant experience in preparing symphonic works to intern
performance standards;
- Conductors with international professional conducting experience would have an advantage;
- An afnity for working with youths and ability to motivate and inspire aspiring young musicians;
- Excellent knowledge of Western symphonic repertoire, ensemble and chamber works, especially repertoire suitable for
developing ensemble skills of young players;
- A music degree;
- Commitment and passion for the continued growth and development of SNYOs performance standards and ensemble s
SNYO members through concert performance and other enrichment activities.
COMMITMENT / REMUNERATION
During each concert rehearsal season (typically spanning 8-12 weeks), the SNYO rehearses on Thursday evenings and Satu
afternoons. The Principal Conductor is required to conduct all Youth Orchestra rehearsals including additional rehearsals
scheduled in advance of performances.
The tenure for this position ranges from 2 to 4 years.
Remuneration for this position will be based on a monthly retainer and a per session fee for conducting / attending rehea
The monthly retainer is to cover all non-rehearsal time with the orchestra, including but not limited to individual prepara
planning meetings, and auditions and assessments.
