ALDINGA BAY RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION

Dear Reader,

Index

ABRA news.
As you will see from the cover, Aldinga On Display is with us
again.
The weekend of October 21-23rd will be one where Aldinga Bay
will be abuzz.
With events happening from Friday until Sunday all over the
Aldinga - Aldinga Beach area, grab a map/timetable handout from
one of the venues and watch out for the blue balloons indicating an
Aldinga On Display event.
The weekend kicks of with the Childrens Week event hosted by
Aldinga Community Centre on the Friday, followed by the Friday
After 5 market in Aldinga Township. Various events will take
place on the Saturday including the Aldinga Central Shopping
Centre, and Aldinga Arts-Eco Village hubs.
Sunday is the Aldinga Market and other possible events.
SAPOL has released a one-stop mobile app providing a portal for
the public to easily access important SAPOL services and
information on their mobile devices including a new Track My
Crime function.
Designed to suit iOS and Android platforms, this app:

Can initiate a call to Triple Zero (000) or to the Police

Assistance Line 131 444.

Allows victims of crime to check the status of their Police

Incident Report (PIR) through the Track
My Crime icon.

Allows users to report suspicious behaviour via the Crime S

toppers icon.

Enables the public to stay in touch with SA Police News and

other information released on SAPOLs
social media platforms and website.

Can display the police stations and traffic camera sites near
the users location.

Includes some information on youth safety.

The Track my Crime service allows victims of crime to track the
progress of the investigation of their PIR. Using the PIR number
and the report date, the victim will be able to see whether their
incident is awaiting assessment, whether an offender has been
flagged / arrested / cautioned, or if the PIR has been
filed. SAPOLs Victims of Crime booklets have been updated with
information about how to access the Track My Crime app.

GOD TALKS TO SURFER!

Get baptised!
How appropriate is that! Our dry 20 year-old Jake was
at work at the time: on a zombie shift just watching
this 3 metre cylindrical grinder do what 3 metre
cylindrical grinders do (hence the name of the shift).
He had been pestering God for months, if not years; and
was at it again God, how, just how am I supposed to
live this Christian life? but this time he was fasting.
God interrupted him with a very clear audible voice,
Jake get baptised! If there had been anyone
standing near me they would definitely have heard it
Jake declares (and of course been startled).
Sent to church as a child so his dad could mow the lawn,
his first touch of the reality of it all came at age 11 when
he saw The Jesus Movie at the Christies Beach Drop in
Centre.
Way back then he found himself weeping to discover that
there was in fact a real Jesus in a specific time in history,
in a definite geographical place who was tortured to death
on a real wooden cross for Jakes sins. It was no longer
just a story!
But however useful this might have been it was not until
age 17 when a question by a youth worker, How is
your walk with the Lord going? got him to realise there
was such a thing as a walk.
Then, at age 20 he was so bothered by the still
unresolved question that he began to demand answers:
Just exactly how do you follow God? And of course
the best one to ask was God.
Some time after being dutifully baptised (and who
wouldnt!) Jake became the Regional Coordinator for
Christian Surfers in South Australia and went about
doing good, throughout Australia and overseas.

SOUTHERN THEATRE AND ARTS SUPPORTERS

- STARS RELOCATES
STARS burst into Rec Park facility, Main Road
Willunga, after many years in residence in Council owned
Waverley Homestead on the beautiful Willunga golf
course.
The committee agonised over the move but after years
taking the role of caretakers of the Homestead it was
decided that there were a number of positives to be
gained by moving to the community owned complex and
using venues like Festival Hall and Show Hall.
On some occasions our performances at the Homestead
warranted a bigger space than the 60 maximum audience
in order to ensure that our investment in such big ventures
as Co-Opera and other concerts could give us the
financial outcome needed to cover the costs.
Also, the responsibility of ensuring that the venue
remained clean and safe was born by STARS and whilst
the Council were very generous in assisting our
endeavours, it became a problem for a few hard working
committee members.
In discussions with the excellent committee at Rec Park
Inc. and considering our pleasant experiences when hiring
the venues, it became clear that STARS would be
welcome as another facet of Rec Park Inc. bringing to
them a cultural input that had been lacking apart from
mainly Cinemallunga and our shows. The Willunga Hill
Art Group who used to sublet Waverley Homestead from
STARS also decided to relocate to a space at Rec Park
and are enjoying the move.
It has been a big change for our members but a very
positive one. We have already staged a successful CoOpera performance of The Mikado. Our Winter Concert
featured captivating Zephyr Quartet and the local tango
performers Adrienne and Andrew Gill who performed in
the Show Hall.
STARS Planning Meeting was in August and was a great
opportunity for our committee and some interested
members and other community people to discuss the
direction for 2017 and there are already some great ideas
for consideration including Adelaide Symphony
Orchestra in October 2017. We plan to use small spaces
like Waverley Homestead if available but other local
small venues that can be hired for String Quartet
Performances, afternoon concerts etc.
Members of the community may not be aware of STARS
mission that is to showcase many facets of the arts,
music, art and dance, spoken word etc. which not only
gives pleasure to local residents (all around the Fleurieu)
but gives emerging and professional artists another
opportunity to perform and pursue a career in the arts.
STARS has over the years given many scholarships to
emerging artists and other selected recipients in the form
of financial assistance through the STARS of Waverley
Award (continued p8)

Aldinga Beach B-7 School
Mentoring Program.
Volunteer mentors are having a huge impact on Aldinga
Beach Primary School students and the local community.
The program has seen over 1200 students and 130
volunteers participate.
Volunteers spanning generations enjoy the opportunity
to provide guidance, pass on skills, share experiences and
expertise with students in an informal yet structured
environment.
Mentoring Manager Shane Scott said This is a fantastic
opportunity for our students to develop their skills and
look to the future with optimism.
Training and supervision is provided by the school. The
absolute strength of this initiative is the generations
interacting together to achieve excellence in a shared
passion. Primary students yearn to hear the rich life
experiences of community mentors, he said.
Activities may range from music, crafts, ceramics,
woodwork, sports, science, dance or just having a chat,
although any interest or skill can be developed even if the
mentors do not know that they have them yet. The gift of
experience, support and life skills are appreciated by the
students and the positive role modelling is invaluable.
Aldinga Beach B 7 School invites the assistance of
volunteer mentors to help out in its Mentoring Program.
Interested volunteers can call Shane Scott on 8556 5060.

The way we have and support the having of our babies

powerfully influences how well we can birth our whole

For 1500 years we have more and more been interfering

with the natural flow of childbirth. The price we are all
paying is great!
It is time for all women to get the facts and take back
the total control of all childbirth especially their own.
It is time for all men to get the facts and make sure that
all women who know what they are doing can have their
babies how and where each woman wishes with
absolutely no uninvited, unwelcome and unnecessary
interference.
When we do this we can competently teach all our
children from infancy!
What we need to know is not complicated. When we all
know what we are doing we can easily identify the very
best and most trustworthy of our obstetricians, midwives,
doulas and birth educators who we may want and
sometimes need during pregnancy, infant nurturing and
while our babies are being born.
The last place any healthy woman who knows what she
is doing should have a baby is exposed to hospital
infections both microbial and attitudinal!
All our work is totally transparent and evidence based. It
takes courage to question what is normally done but, for
goodness sake, QUESTION IT for yourself, for your
children - for us all!

Your Sense & Dollars.

LVR and LMI
by Nani Johnston
Before you start wondering, I am not talking in SMS
texting format. I am talking about two of the most
commonly used acronyms when discussing home
mortgages: LVR and LMI.
So, what are they and why are they important?
LVR Loan to Value ratio is a measurement used
by lenders to determine the level of risk a loan
represents in relation to the security. In a lenders
book, the higher the LVR is, the riskier the loan is.
How is it calculated, you ask? Well..
LVR =

with no LMI is possible when family guarantee is an

option you have access to.
Everyones situation is unique. For further help in
understanding your LVR and borrowing capacity,
drop me an email nani@risehigh.com.au.

The Get Together Club

A club exists in Aldinga Beach for adults with a
disability and their families.
The group encourages friendship, fun, connection and
inspiration.
It is the only group of its kind in the southern area.
The first meeting held at the Aldinga Life Care Hall was
a great success, with families sharing a meal, playing
games, and getting to know each other.
A variety of activities are planned for the monthly group
including singing, painting, puppet making, and guest
chefs. Ideas for activities are welcome and encouraged.
The Get Together Club has received a Community
Grant from the City of Onkaparinga and is also
supported by Minda Incorporated, Carer Support and
Disability SA. New members are always welcome.
The Get Together Club is held on the first Friday of
each month, at the Aldinga Life Care Hall, Pridham
Blvd, Aldinga Beach from 6.30 8.30pm.
For bookings call 8433 9555
or email: thegettogetherclub2013@gmail.com.

Loan Value
House Value (Price)

where loan value = purchase price plus purchase

costs less your deposit (if purchasing) or
outstanding loan balance (if refinancing)
LVR ratio is important as it determines the interest
rate and any discounts you may be eligible for.
Lower LVR represents lower risk and so you are
normally rewarded with better interest rate, as well
as access to more lenders and products. LVR
higher than 80% is considered risky which means
your loan is generally subject to LMI.
LMI Lenders Mortgage Insurance is a once-off
insurance premium that you, as a borrower, will
have to pay for borrowing more than 80% of your
house value/price. It is an insurance to protect only
the lender in case of loan defaults. It can be paid
upfront or bundled into your loan payable over the
loan term. LMI can be recurring. It means if you
refinance to another lender and your LVR is still
above 80% then LMI is payable even though you
may have already paid it the first time around.
80% is the ideal LVR ratio.

Aldinga Bay Bowling Clubs

30th Anniversary 1986 -2016
Nearly 100 members and special guests recently celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the popular local club.
Foundation Members were honoured, a pictorial snapshot of the 30 year journey was presented, first jack and
bowl were rolled on the green to officially open the season, and old friends and bowling colleagues enjoyed
catching up over afternoon tea, with a specially made
dolphin cake.
Special homage was made to Foundation and Life Member Tony Smith, the only club member to have served
and played bowls continuously since the beginning of the
club in 1986.

Distinctive new bowling

shirts with a striking
dolphin feature, and
generously sponsored by
local businesses, Caltex and
Aldinga Plumbing and
Aldinga Steel, were
presented to all full
members by the
Management committee to
commence the 2016/17
anniversary bowling season.
Dedicated to the memory of
the late Howard Perry,
Foundation & Life Member,
the re- established second
bowling green was
officially opened by MP
Amanda Rishworth
yesterday and Howards
widow Hazel, also a
Foundation and Life
Member, was present to
enjoy the occasion and to
cut the cake.
