Lesson Topic: First Fleet Artwork

Recent Prior Experience:

Students have an understanding of the features found within aboriginal artwork.

Students have created a dot painting previously incorporating this technique.

Students have studied the journey of the First Fleet in depth.

INTRODUCTION

T will show Ss an example of an artwork depicting the


journey, explaining how it was achieved and what is expected
at the conclusion of the lesson.

to create their artwork.

DEVELOPMENT
Students work towards applying their
understandings of the symbols used
in Indigenous art.

Use paper and origami to express
their understandings.
Discuss the story told in their

T will ask Ss to first construct 11 ships using the origami


instructions; T will demonstrate how to make 1 of these with
the class. Ss will be asked to put their names on each one
and then put them aside.

Ss will work at their desks

Ss will then tear paper to create the illusion of moving water,


Ss will need to place their 11 ships on the page, setting it out
before they glue this down. T will check the Ss work before
they paste it down.

Resources:
- A3 paper

Fast Finishers- Ss will be asked to firstly finish their previous


artwork if they art behind. Ss who finish will work together to
replicate a 3D ship.

T will undertake purposeful
