Proof of Prophethood of Muhammed

Dawah Training Program

1. The Truth in the beliefs presented by Prophet Muhammed

testify to him being the true Messenger of Allah.
Prophet Muhammed brought before the whole world the correct belief
about Allah - that there is none worthy of worship except Him alone, that
idol worship is wrong, that there is only one Lord, Cherisher, sustainer of this
universe. He presented before mankind the correct concept of Prophethood
prophets as guides, showing people the correct way, not as gods. He
presented before people the correct concept of Life after Death about the
day of Judgement, the scale in which the deeds will be weighed and there is
no one who has dies for our sins, nor is there going to be many lives with
repeated reincarnation.
Only a true Messenger of Allah would have presented these truths about the
correct belief. If any belief towards which the prophet called would have
been false the falsehood of any persons claim to Prophethood is exposed
there itself.
This is referred to in a verse of the Quran in Surah ale Imran 3:79

It is not for a human [prophet] that Allah should give him the Scripture and
authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be
servants to me rather than Allah ," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious
scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and
because of what you have studied."

2. The Quran: The Standing Miracle given to Prophet Muhammed

Prophet Muhammed did many physical miracles in his life-time which are
a proof of his prophethood. Miracles like the splitting of the moon, the
multiplication of food & water on different occasions and many more. These
miracles were witnessed by several people, who testified about their
authenticity. However the biggest miracle given to the Prophet was the
Quran. The Quran is clearly the word of Allah due to several self evident

facts.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Ankabut 29:50-51

But they say, "Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord?" Say,
"The signs are only with Allah , and I am only a clear warner."
And is it not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book which is
recited to them?
(For evidences that the Quran is the word of God, please refer to the notes
on Proof that the Quran is the word of Allah.)

3. The Character of Prophet Muhammed

Allah says in the Quran in Surah Al-Ahzab 33:21
There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent
pattern.
According to Michael H. Hart:
" He was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both
the religious and secular levels. "
MICHAEL H. HART, THE 100: A RANKING OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSONS IN
HISTORY, NEW YORK: HART PUBLISHING COMPANY, INC., 1978, P. 33.

Prophet Muhammed had such a high level of character as is evident from

the below mentioned examples:
Even his avowed enemies would call him al Al-Ameen ( the
trustworthy and as-Sadiq (the truthful) and would keep their
belongings with him.
In 10 Hijri when Makkah was conquered, the people who had fought
him, tried to kill him, tortured his companions now these people
were at his mercy. He could have taken a full revenge. But he forgave
them all.

His wife also gives testimony that he had the best character. (Sahih
Muslim 1623)
His servant Anas gives testimony that he had the best character.
(Sahih Muslim 5724)
He never took revenge for his own self (Sahih Bukhari 8:836)
Never resorted to favouritism and injustice in judgement so much that
even if his own daughter was concerned. (Sahih Muslim 4187)
Fulfilled his covenants and those made by his followers even with his
enemies (Sahih Muslim 4411)
Was so humble that he would be the first to greet even small boys on
the street. (Sahih Bukhari 8:264)
His life and teachings are full of examples of his being the perfect example. A
person who lived according to what he taught. How can such a person be a
liar or a false prophet? His full life gives testimony about him being the true
Prophet of Allah!

4. Prophesized in previous scriptures of previous Prophets and

other religious books
Allah says in the Quran in Surah al Aaraf 7:157

Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find
written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel
The coming of Prophet Muhammed has been prophesised in the religious
scriptures of the Jews and the Christians. Even in the present day Bible he
has been mentioned. He has also been mentioned in the religious scriptures
of the Hindus. This is a clear proof for those who believe in these scriptures
for them to come forward and believe in Prophet Muhammed .

5. The transformation that he brought

The society in which Prophet Muhammed opened his eyes was:
Deeply immersed in idol-worship.
The pre-islamic Arabs used to madly love liquor and called it by many
different names.

They were a volatile people and used to have violent, prolonged wars
among themselves. Such wars, that entire tribes would be wiped out
fighting over trivial reasons.
They used to love to gamble.
There was wide spread obscenity. People used to even do Tawaaf
round the Kaba absolutely naked.
When a girl child would be born, it was considered as a sign of great
honour on part of the father that he would bury her alive.
Slaves would be oppressed, beaten mercilessly. So much that if a
person were to even remove the skin of his slave no one would say
anything.
They used to believe in many superstitions and blind beliefs.
This is all just a glimpse of the level of ignorance that the Arabs had before
Islam.
Within a span of 23 year, the Arabs had changed. The entire Arabian
peninsula believed in One God, brotherhood was established among all
people Arab or Non-Arab, women were given rights, slaves were considered
brothers, alcohol had been banned, gambling had been abolished, adultery
now stood banned, superstitions not followed, education and learning was
encouraged. Within a few more years these same ignorant Arabs were ruling
half of the known world of that time. The Muslims were highly advanced in
their knowledge of science at a time when the European world was passing
through its Dark Ages.
For one man, singlehanded, to guide such a people required nothing short of
a miracle. This man was Prophet Muhammed . The change that he brought
about in the world, the effects of which we feel right up to this day, bears
witness indeed he was the true Messenger of Allah.
Even the Non-Muslim historian Lamartine writes in his book, "Historie de la
Turquie," Paris 1854
If greatness of purpose, smallness of means and astounding results are the
three criteria of human genius, who could dare to compare any great man in
modern history with Muhummed?
Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer
of rational beliefs, of a cult without images: the founder of twenty terrestrial
empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhummed.

As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we

may well ask, is there any man greater then he?
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Ale Imran 3:164

Certainly did Allah confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent
among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and
purifying them and teaching them the Book[i.e., the Quran] and wisdom,
although they had been before in manifest error.

6. What do they say?

a. Was he after wealth?
Ibn Abbas

narrated,

The Prophet used to spend several consecutive nights hungry and his
family used to not have anything for an evening meal.
[TIRMIDHI: 1881, IBN MAJAH, (HASAN) SAHEEH AL JAAMI: 4895]

Anas narrates,

He never used to collect things for tomorrow.

[TIRMIDHI (SAHEEH) SAHEEH AL JAAMI: 4846]

Aisha

narrated,

The Prophet (had to) buy some foodstuff from a Jew on credit for a fixed

period while his iron armor was mortgaged (for it)."

[SAHEEH BUKHARI 3:454, SAHEEH MUSLIM: 3904]

b. Was he after honour?

Al -Mughirah Bin Shubah

narrated,

"The sun eclipsed in the life-time of Allah's Messenger on the day when
(his son) Ibrahim died. So the people said that the sun had eclipsed because
of the death of Ibrahim. Allah's Messenger said, "The sun and the moon
do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of some-one. When
you see the eclipse pray and invoke Allah."
[SAHEEH BUKHARI 2: 153, SAHEEH MUSLIM]

Umar narrated that the Prophet said,

Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians praised the son of Mary,

for I am only a Slave. So, call me the Slave of Allah and His Messenger."
[SAHIH BUKHARI 4:654]

Ibn Abbas

narrated,

A man said to the Prophet , What Allah wills and what you will. The
Prophet said to him, Have you made me equal to Allah? Rather say,

c. Was he mad, possessed?

Any sensible person can read the sayings of Prophet Muhammed replete with wisdom and decide if these are the ramblings of a mad
person.
Were the Arabs transformed by the insensible talk of a mad man.
These are amazingly foolish objections raised to attack the personality
of a true messenger of God.
Any person can read the biography of the Prophet and easily see
that far from being any mad person, even in testing times the Prophet
held on to the ideals of patience, good conduct, mercy, kindness,
justice taught by him.
When people have no refutation of the truth that a truthful person
speaks they start making false and insulting allegations against the
personality of the caller to truth.

7. Preservation of the life of the Prophet

No persons life has been preserved in the manner in which the life of
Prophet Muhammed has been preserved. Even many Non Muslims marvel
today at the manner in which the hadith has been preserved, with the chains
of narration, the books of Rijaal in which details about more than 640,000
narrators has been recorded, the manner in which we can check and know
even today whether a Hadith is authentic or not.
We have preserved today, with chains of authenticity even minute details
about the life of Prophet Muhammed . In the history of mankind, the life of
no person has been documented and preserved as the life of Prophet
Muhammed .
For example the Encyclopaedia Britannica states, Biblical scholars state that
attempts to write the biography of Jesus should frankly be abandoned, for
the material for that does not exist. It has been estimated that the total
number of days of which we have any information does not exceed forty.

Compare this with Prophet Muhammed ! It is Allah who made him the
example for all people and it is Allah who preserved his life, teachings,
actions for people to follow him.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Ale-Imran 3:31

Say, If you love Allah, then follow me Allah, will love you and forgive you
your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

8. The Love for Prophet Muhammed

The companions of Prophet Muhammed loved him with a love so great
that it was more than the love that they had for their own family members.
They believed in him and supported his cause. Many of them were people of
standing and people of intelligence, if Prophet Muhammed was a fake
Prophet then why did these people not see through it. The love which they
had for Prophet is unparalleled in human history.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah al Ahzaab 33:6

The Prophet is more closer to the believers than their own selves
Till today Muslims of the world love and honour the Prophet to such a
degree that they would even ransom their families just to see the Prophet
once.
What is the reason that this one man continues to inspire so many people
throughout the times?
