1. Overview(1point)
OnOctober24thand26thIwasabletoteachmytwolessonsonFrisbeeat
ClevelandElementarySchool.Iwasteachingtwentystudentswithabouthalfinthe
fourthgradeandtheotherhalfinfifthgrade.ForbothlessonsIwasonthegrassareain
thebackoftheschoolgrounds.Formyfirstlessononthe24thIworkedontheforehand
throw/passandtheequipmentthatwasrequiredforthislessonwastwentypolyspots,ten
Frisbees,5smallcones,and3hulahoops.Formysecondlessononthe26 thIusedthe
sameamountofpolyspotsandFrisbees,butIhad10smallcones.Formyfirstlesson
theylearnedtheforehandthrowandtheonlypreviouslearntskillswereteamworkand
communication.Forthesecondlessontheywerelearningtheflickthrowtheprevious
learntskillsweretheforehandthrowandthehammerthrow.

2. StudentLearningOutcomes(6points)
ForbothofmylessonstheSLOandhealthrelatedobjectiveswerevery
similar.Thecontentwastheonlydifferencebetweenthetwo.Formyfirstlesson
mypsychomotorobjectivewasstudentswillbeabletosuccessfullyperformthe
COTSofthrowingaforehandthrowandhittingtheirtargetsevenoutoften
times.Thecognitiveobjectivewas,studentswillbeabletoreciteandunderstand
theCOTStothrowingaforehandpasswith85%accuracy.Myhealthrelated

objectivewastohavethestudentsmaintainin50%MVPA.Thesewerethesame
objectivesformysecondlessonexceptitwasfortheflickthrow/pass.
IdonotthinkIfullysuccessfullyachievedmypsychomotorgoalsforthefirst
lessonbecauseitwasreallywindyanditplayedafactorinhowsuccessfulthe
studentswereinthrowingtotheirpartners.Thestudentscertainlyachievedthe
cognitivegoalsinbothlessonforeachofthemknewtheCOTStoboththrows.If
Igooffofmyevaluationforthehighskilledandlowskilledstudentsitisreally
difficulttoseewhowaswho.Thiswasaveryhardtaskforeveryonebecauseof
howwindyitwasandhowitisntatraditionalsportthattheyhaveeverbeen
taught the certain skills. If I were to teach this lesson again I would maybe
changethespacingortrytouselessFrisbees.Itgotchaoticwithalotofthem
flyingaround.IfIbroketheclassintosmallgroupsoffourandtheyjustpassed
aroundinacircleIthinkIwouldbealittlelesschaotic.

3. CreatingaQualityLearningEnvironment(5points)
IwouldsaythatIwassuccessfulinimprovingthemotorskillsofthemajorityof
the class. Many of them did not know how to perform a forehand throw
accuratelyorhaveneverevenheardoftheflick.Beingthattheflickwasbrand
newtoeverystudentintheclassitmadeitdifficulttokeepeveryoneontaskand
doingtheflickinsteadrevertingbacktodoingwhattheyknewandwaseasyfor
them.Mylessonswerebothappropriateforthelevelofallthestudents.Thehigh
skilledstudentsdidntreallyshowanysignificantskillleveldifferencesversus
thelowerskillstudentsbesidethefactthattheywerefollowingdirections.For
themostpartIdidgiveeveryonethesameamountoftimeforpracticeexceptfor

mytasktwo.InmytasktwoIhadthemdostationwork.Ihadthreedifferent
stationsbutIdidnothavetimetorotate3times.Duringmyteachforthesecond
lessonIachieved40%MVPAwhichwasverygoodforteachingthemataskthat
noneofthestudentshaveeverbeenintroducedto.Everyonewasgiventhesame
chancesatahighleveltolearnandperformthenewskillsintroducedtothem.I
alsogavethemtimetopracticetheskillsbyusingtheirpartnerstohelpcritique
themselves.

4. Strengths&WeaknessesinPedagogicalskillset(8points)
Usethefollowingquestionstohelpassessyourstrengths/weaknesses:
a) Wheredidyoumovetoduringyourteachingepisode?Didyouobservefromthe
perimeter?Didyoumovetoallareasoftheteachingspaceduringtheactivity?
DuringmytwolessonplansImadesurethatIwasmovingaroundtheentire
lesson area. I walked around the perimeter and through the middle of the
episodestobesurethatthestudentswerestayingontaskandperformingthe
COTScorrectly.Atfirstinoticedthatoneofthestudentsdidnothaveapartner
soIjoinedhimuntilIsawthatsomeofthestudentsweregettingoutofhandon
theothersideofthelessonspacesoIhadtohavehimpartnerupwithanother
pairandwalkovertotheothersidetohelpgettheotherstudentsbackontask.I
providedtheCOTSforthenewtasksbefore,during,andaftereachlesson.I
wouldgoovertheCOTSbymyselfinfrontoftheclassusingwholepartwhole
thenIwouldcallupastudenttovolunteerrecitingandperformingtheCOTSto
the task. Duringthe activityI wouldhave tostop the entire class andeither
remindthemoftheCOTSorIwouldwalkuptoastudentindividuallyifIsaw

theywerehavingtroublesandgoovertheCOTSwiththem.Afterthelesson
cametoanendIwouldhavestudentscomeupinfrontoftheclassanddothe
sameasthebeginningofthelesson.
After each task I was able to successfully collect the equipment by
simplyaskingacoupleofstudentstocleanitupforme.Someofthestudents
lovetohelpcleanupsoIusethattomyadvantageandhavethemhelpoutas
muchaspossible.IftherewasalotofequipmentIwouldhaveeachstudentpick
upatleastonethingandputitbackwhichwentreallywellandfast.Forbothof
theselessonIwasgivenacouplenewstudentsandsomestudentshadtoleaveso
itwasalmostlikestartingoverwithabrandnewclasssoitwasdifficulttotake
careofthenewstudentswhoweredisruptive.Theywerenttoosureabouthow
theclasswasranbutitstilldidntgettothepointwhereitgottoooutofhand.

5. Recommendationsfornextsession(4points)
FormysecondlessonwhenIhadallthenewstudentsitdidgetalittle
stressfulandoneofmystudentsevenaskedmeifIwasmadatthemwhichwas
funnyatthetimebutnowlookingbackhecouldtellthatIwasstressed.IfIjust
havemoreenthusiasmanddontshowthatIamstressedthenmaybethestudents
willbemoreontaskandhavebetterbehavior.Itwillprobablytakeacouple
morelessonstogetthenewstudentsbackintheflowofthingsbutotherthanthat
Ithinkeverythingisgoingreallywell.BasedonwhatIachievedforthisweek
with40%MVPAandconsideringitwasoneofmyhardestweeksIthinkthatI
cangetevencloserto50%MVPAnextweekinmyvolleyballlesson.
