4H: Linear Simultaneous Equations by ELIMINATION

When equations are true at the same time.

Today we will learn

how to find the
intersection
algebraically through

How is this
different from
substitution?

ELIMINATION.
STEP 1

Rearrange equations so variables line up.

STEP 2

One or both equations may need to be

multiplied by a constant to combine &
eliminate a variable.

STEP 3

Substitute the solution back into one of the

original equations to find the other solution.

STEP 4

Write solution as a coordinate.

(1) Decide between

x or y to eliminate.
(2) Multiply the top
equation by 8, when
combined the y's will
be eliminated.

(3) Substitute solution back

into one of the original
equations.

(4) Solution: ( 0 , -3 )
