COmmanders Report
Compatriots,
I want to start by wishing everyone and Happy Halloween and Veterans Day. I would like to
thank all our veterans for their service be it during Wartime or Peacetime without your sacrifice we
could not enjoy the peace and lifestyle we share here in the states. I hope everyone has been enjoying the
nice weather we have had the last couple of weeks, while its nice take your families out and enjoy the
vast amount of history we have in our own backyards to help educate the young and remind the old of
the sacrifices of our Southern Heros during this veterans day.
I want to thank everyone from the camp that came out and supported Clayton Shepherd and The
Friends of Shockoe Hill Cemetery grave dedication and supporting our Compatriot John Henry Taylors
family member Pvt Blunt headstone dedication. The ceremony was a bit windy but it was conducted
with honor and reverence for those members from all conflicts our veterans have participated in. The
flag presentation for the familys in attendance with their respected states was a fine touch. I would
have to say if you have never been to this ceremony or have in the past Clayton and the Friends put on
one fine show. The only sad commentary on the ceremony was the gunfire we heard at the end was the
result of a shooting in Gilpin court where a mother lost her life with three children in the back seat. We
send our prayers and sympathy to her family and hope that God will heal her familys hearts.
Our Shotgun raffle will be held at our upcoming November 1 meeting and we ask that all
members have their tickets in to Barry or Tommy by the start of the meeting. This money will be used to
help mark graves at Hollywood Cemetery and reach our goal of marking three to five headstones a
month. It is also good to note from Tommys report on our Facebook page where the SCV has WON
their case to mark graves at Oakwood Cemetery that was good news. Remember that we have close to
60,000 unmarked Confederate Heros graves in the greater Richmond area that we hope to one day be
marked so that we will always remember their sacrifice for us.
Our Christmas program will be held December 5th at the Providence United Methodist Church at
901 S Providence Rd, Richmond VA 23236 at 6:00pm. We will have Amy Ladd as our guest singer and
entertainment for the night. The camp will provide the Turkey, Hams, and drinks for the evening we ask
that each member bring a potluck dish for the evening or desert to go with the meal.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting Nov 1st at Dolce Vita Italian restaurant,
with dinner and fellowship at 6:00pm with meeting starting at 7:00pm. Our guest speaker for the
evening will be Michael C. Lucas. His program will be the story of the Cavalry Battle of High Bridge
.
Barry I hope you have been able to rest after your recent medical stay last week and are feeling
much better. I send my prayers out to all sick and infirmed members and their loved ones and for this
country as we prepare to elect our next President.
Respectfully
Commander
Ken

Greetings, Compatriots all,

As we prepare for the Thanksgiving Season, we are truly grateful and mindful of all of the
blessings the Lord has bestowed on us. The time to thank our God for all of the good things
and graces we have been given is not a once a year affair with a turkey dinner. We should
give thanks to the Lord every day for his many blessings and mercies.
Recently, our devoted adjutant, Barry Isenhour, suffered a stroke and was taken to Saint
Francis Hospital by our dear friend, Susan Hathaway. Barry had accompanied Susan to the
Powhatan Troop Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans where she was the featured
speaker. Barry had not been feeling well but nevertheless, he was about the business of
honoring the Charge. We are grateful to Susan for noticing Barry's symptoms and she
convinced him to allow her to take him to the hospital. Barry is now home and working on
getting his blood pressure down to an acceptable level.
Please keep Barry in your prayers for a complete recovery. We thank our good Lord that
there was no permanent damage done. Our Compatriot Hugh Hawthorne is doing well and
sends his regards to all of our camp members.
Compatriot George Edward Winn Jr. has recovered from eye surgery and hosted a
wonderful cook out at the George Winn Bluegrass Park in Lawrenceville. Compatriot
Robert M. Morris is progressing nicely from his back operation and will be commencing
exercises to strengthen his back. Lisa Marie Clinger is getting along well and presently
enjoying a trip out of town. She is making steady progress since her hip surgery and
looking forward to returning to college at Randolph Macon. Please keep these compatriots
in your thoughts and prayers for speedy and complete healing.
Your obedient servant,
John Henry Taylor
Chaplain In all my perplexities and distresses, the
Bible has never failed to give me light and
strength.

A Brother in Need
First John 3:17 But if anyone has the worlds goods and sees his
brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does Gods love
abide in him?
Many talk the talk but few it seems walk the walk and if you see your
brother or sister in need and yet close your ears to them, how in the
world can you say that the love of God abides in you? Its not possible
because the love of God should compel us to help one another. How
can we not share what God has entrusted to us? We are stewards and
God will hold us all accountable on the day of His visitation. I was in
the presence of many men today that should be asking God for
forgiveness.
Our number one enemy as Christians is Satan, and he is everywhere in
today's world. The enemy shows its face in the form of sins,
temptations, and virtually any other area where you can be led astray.
Whenever you feel the urge to lie, cheat, steal, attack others and
commit other immoral acts - that is Satan at work. You must do your
best to avoid these acts. By giving into them, you are letting Satan win.
In your life, if you come across those you do not get along with and you
consider them your earthly "enemies," understand that they are just
humans, too. They may be bad people, but as Christians we cannot let
ourselves become dark and malicious like other people. Jesus taught
us to NOT seek vengeance. If anything, we should seek to understand
and forgive our enemies.
But in the end always remember: Satan is Christianity's enemy. Don't
let the enemy win - use the Bible to stay on course and defeat Satan.
We will always have enemies, but we must be defeat Satan.
