A requirement in todays transport logistics

Faster, more accurate and more flexible the requirements for the
control of goods movements are getting even greater. Logistics
chains are more complex and faster in a globalised world. The use of
appropriate information software is required in order to meet these
requirements. SAP TM is information software that ensures the efficient
handling of transport. The system maps the entire transport process,
from accepting orders, planning and executing transport through to
calculating and invoicing freight costs. It is easy and secure for business
partners to access selected information.

SAP TM functions at a glance

The order management integrates and synchronises orders and
jobs, amongst other things, from SAP and non-SAP systems.
It is also possible to manually enter orders in the TM system.
Downstream processes are then automatically triggered in the TM
system and generate the transport requirements relevant for the
planning.
The transport planning and optimisation can be done manually
or automatically taking account of restrictions, such as
incompatibilities, costs, available capacity or prioritised transport
routes. Graphic features, such as the map integrated into the
planning cockpit and visualised vehicle space optimisation support
and facilitate the transport planning.
The transport tendering and carrier selection can be done manually
based on preferences or optionally through a tendering process.
Orders are automatically transmitted by E-mail, fax or EDI. A web
portal provided by the TM system enables cooperation with logistics
partners.
The transport execution and monitoring ensures the monitoring of
the transport execution process. Timely and accurate information
concerning the execution of transport enables a reduction in
response times. Individuals involved in the process are notified and
can intervene appropriately in exceptional circumstances.
The processing of invoices and credit notes for invoicing transport
is done through a standard integration with SAP ERP.

SAP GTS ensures compliance with international legislation in trading
processes.
SAP EH&S provides support with all occupational health and safety
and environmental protection matters, such as implementing dangerous goods checks and creating dangerous goods paperwork.
SAP EM enables the visibility of process and performance data.
Alerts and follow-up actions are triggered in critical situations.
SAP standard mobile solutions, such as predefined Fiori apps, supply
transport-relevant analytical data for tablets and smartphones

SAP Transportation Management add-ons

The PTV Business Connector integrates geocoding and calculates
distances and driving times out-of-the-box. The solution can be integrated into any SAP TM system from version 9.0 without additional
development costs.
TM-ON-STREET enables the recording of events on a route. This
means that conclusions can be drawn quickly to adapt the route
planning if necessary. This gives your scheduler the opportunity to
control transport processes proactively.
